TOPIC:   Guardians and Conservators:
            Who, What, When, Why and How? 
 
Presenter:  Jonathan W. Lips, Attorney at Law
            
Jon Lips is an attorney practicing in the areas of elder law and estate planning.  Prior to forming his firm, Jon served as Vice President of Advocacy and Legal Counsel for Care Providers of Minnesota, a long-term care association where he worked from 2003 through 2008.  His experience also includes internships with the Aging and Adult Services division of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, and the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging. Jon is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association's Elder Law Section, and is an active volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association and the Park Nicollet Foundation's St. Louis Park Senior Initiative.  Raised in Duluth, Jon attended Georgetown University and the University of Virginia School of Law, and now lives in St. Louis Park with his wife and daughter.
 
Program Objectives:
  • Understand the difference between a guardianship and a conservatorship
  • Identify alternatives to guardianship and conservatorship
  • List factors relevant to determining if a person is capable of making his or her own decisions

MEETING HANDOUTS
 
Beginning this month, Membership Meeting handouts will be posted on the MASWA website. We hope that this allows members who want handouts to easily access them and to additionally save paper waste. The website will also archive past handouts so members can retrieve information from a meeting they missed or would like to revisit. The MASWA ID of "seniors" and password of "goodworks10" is needed to access the handouts. Below is a link to April's presentation.
 
 
 
2010 SPRING LUNCHEON
 

The time for MASWA's annual Spring Luncheon draws near! This year's event is on Thursday, May 20th at The Reserve and features speakers Molly Cox and Jim Robinson presenting "The Art of the Possible: Take a journey of learning and laughter." Please follow the below link to the Spring Luncheon invitation for additional information and for registration instructions. Non-members can also attend the luncheon at a cost of $25.We look forward to seeing you at this year's event!
