PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY NOTE

Hello fellow MASWA members!

Here we are in August!  It seems like summer just started and yet in the Sunday sale fliers we are encouraged to think back to school.  Well, the board went "back to school" in July with the annual retreat.  This year at the retreat we discussed ways we can serve you, our members, better.  Some of  the things we are looking at this year is a revamped Spring Luncheon (our annual meeting), the future of our organization and its reach in the community and where we may be able to help our greater community with donations.  In the past we have made donations to Meals on Wheels, a senior food shelf and Gifts for Seniors.  We are hoping to be able to continue that this year as well.

Keep an eye out for a survey arriving in your e-mail inbox in the next few months.  We are hoping that you will share your thoughts and insights with us in an effort to improve your organization and better meet your needs.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer.

COMMUNITY LIAISON COMMITTEE - Education Outreach
Attention MASWA Members:
Sending your kids back to school? The Community Liaison Committee needs your help!

The Minneapolis and St. Paul Senior Workers Association have a joint committee to establish connections with area high schools, community colleges and universities. Our committee of diverse senior workers is available to present at career days, job fairs, speak to classes, student associations, etc. Our goal is to educate students on the need for professionals in the aging field. Our presentaiton topics include (but are not limited to) aging demographiscs, diverse professions in the aging field, educational paths to careers in aging, and the importance of networking in today's economy.

The committee is asking you to send us your school contacts (teachers, guidance/career counselors, faculty) who may be interested in having us come talk to students. Please send your educational contacts to George Lane at glane@eldercarecc.us or call 612-695-2770.
