| PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY NOTE |
|
|
Hello fellow MASWA members!

It is April and it is RAINING. I am so happy to not be looking at snow. Not that I don't like winter, but...
We have had a busy last couple of months. The Public Policy Committee sent out a public service announcement (PSA) to all media stations and all of the churches in Minneapolis and St. Paul regarding the free and low cost prescription programs available for people to use. It included the websites where they could find more information about the programs, including information about Target, Walmart, and K-Mart's programs. 184 PSAs went out and I am sure we will be using this medium in the future. It is a great way to get information out to a lot of people.
The Spring Conference is all put together and scheduled for May 28, 2009 at The Reserve. There still may be an opportunity for sponsors. Please contact the committee members if you are interested. The committee consists of Marti Briest (Parkshore Campus), Susan Green (Visiting Angels in St. Louis Park) and Diane Mauer (Care Options). We will also have our annual meeting that day, at which time we will be saying good-bye to the old Board of Directors and voting on and welcoming the new Board of Directors. I would love to see all of you there on the 28th. It is always a great program, yummy lunch, and fantastic networking.
The Board has also been working on community outreach. Georgia Lane, our Historian, has volunteered to be our Community Liaison and will be looking for MASWA members to join her committee. You will be reaching out to colleges in the area and telling the MASWA story, encouraging young college students to choose careers that will positively impact seniors. I think this committee could have a huge impact on our community. Please consider volunteering some of your time to help Georgia pursue this endeavor.
HAPPY SPRING!

| FEATURED BOARD MEMBER OF THE MONTH |

Loretta Stinson - President-Elect
I began my journey on the MASWA Board as a Member-at-large, assisting in the coordination of the Spring Luncheon. I then ventured on to the Fall Aging Conference Co-Chair position for 2 years. Onward to President-Elect for 2 years and looking forward to the President position in the upcoming year, although taking over from Linda Debner's capable hands will not be easy (I will keep her number on speed dial!). Membership on the MASWA board has been invaluable to me as I have the ability to meet, work with and learn from some of the best and brightest the senior industry in Minnesota has to offer. My husband, Tom and I own N-Hance Revolutionary Wood Renewal. It is a process of renewing and refinishing wood that involves No Dust, No Mess and No Odor. As a result, it is a great process for updating and reviving the wood in senior's homes as well as senior residences. I am the mother of 2 active sons and keep busy playing taxi to their various activities and events. I am also active in my church on the Pastoral Council and the Development Team. Personally, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family at the cabin. |
