Book Publishing & Marketing Seminar
2012 Style

Are you . . .

  • a novice writer wanting to learn about the publishing industry?
  • a seasoned author wanting to know more about ebooks and how they differ from printed books?
  • baffled or intimidated by social media?
  • the author of a new book who needs marketing help for your title?
  • clueless about where to start when it comes to mobile web, apps and interactive books?
  • needing help with publicity for your book?

Then this day-long seminar about the book publishing industry is a definite must attend for you.

The last 20 years have seen technology radically change the publishing industry from the way books are created to the way they are marketed and sold. And, with the sales numbers of digital books overtaking printed books, we don't see a sign of things settling down anytime in the near future.

In this workshop you will spend the day immersed in information that will educate you about where the industry has been, where it is going and how to get there whether you are looking for a traditional publisher or you want to independently publish your project.

With three experts in the book publishing industry---Rita Mills, Sandy Lawrence and Deltina Hay---you will learn how the industry has changed over the years moving it into the future with the "ebook revolution."

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS & TOPICS

The Wild West Scenario of Today's
World of Book Publishing
TBC
Rita Mills is a veteran of both the traditional and independent publishing worlds having spent 4 years as the managing editor of an academic press at the University of Houston and owning her own publishing, consulting business, The Book Connection, since 1996.

Rita has had a "front-row seat" to witness the publishing industry's metamorphosis and how it has impacted both authors and publishers alike. Her presentation will focus on the basic standards of the publishing industry and how to produce a quality product to take to market. A portion of her presentation will focus on the emerging ebook market.

Whether your goals include finding a publisher or independently publishing your work, Rita can save you a lot of time, money, and heartache with her down-to-earth knowledge, her vast reservoir of expertise, and her insight into the publishing industry today. Rita will share the tools needed to navigate the treacherous waters of this volatile, ever changing industry so you can make the best choice for the direction that your manuscript needs to take.
Marketing Your Books for Maximum Exposure & Minimum Time Investment

Sandy Lawrence whose early marketing background includes such heavy hitters as Digital Equipment and Compaq / HP, has for the last 10 years been focusing her efforts on marketing books for independent authors and small publishers as Perceptive Marketing. She has helped market a wide range of book genre from children's picture books to memoirs.

Sandy continues to share her knowledge of book marketing via her Book Marketing Boot Camps. She also presents her Marketing Boot Camps to corporate clients such as Houston Metro. Sandy's free monthly Bistro Brainstorm Sessions and her coaching work with Military Writers is her way of giving back to the community.

Whether someone is published through a traditional publisher or independently published, these days the author is responsible for the lion's share of the marketing of their books. Sandy will focus her content on marketing basics and "tried and true" techniques to get your book in front of your target audience. Her presentation will incorporate "old school" techniques as well as tips for building that social network for maximum awareness of your book project.
Social Media Marketing Made Simple

ShellyBood

In this workshop, Shelley Roth with Springboard Social Media will show you how to turn social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter into powerful business tools.

We will cover the strategies and best practices needed to get the most out of your social media activities, including time management, measuring the return of your activities, and learning the essential elements of growing your business using the power of social media marketing.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about what social media marketing really is;
  • See how to incorporate social media into your business without losing productivity; and
  • Discuss real-life examples of how other businesses are using these low-cost tools to gain visibility, develop relationships and drive sales and response.

We will discuss the various social media outlets that are available, how they interact together, ways to leverage their inherent strengths and tools to evaluate them for best use for your business or organization.

Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone you think might be interested.

Sincerely,
