SINGER/SONGWRITER PHILIPPA HANNA BACKS AMAZING 'BEAUTY IS UNIQUE' CAMPAIGN GIRLS IN PARLIAMENT
 Our Philippa tells Parliament "I Am Amazing". Philippa joined the girls from High Storrs School to pitch their business plan for Beauty is Unique, a self-esteem building website which will offer free photo-shoots to applicants in need of a confidence boost, to an audience of politicians and business leaders at the Houses of Parliament this month. They challenge the media attitude towards ideals of beauty from size-zero diet fads to plastic surgery and airbrushing. Eventually they hope to offer a broader representation of natural beauty to the masses and instill more security in young people. Partners In Innovation, (a Bradford-based company behind a school and community engagement programme called Solutions for the Planet), held the event. After hearing the talent of local singer/songwriter Philippa Hanna, the girls were keen to use her "I Am Amazing"song as their campaign anthem. The powerful song was co-written with chart-topping songwriter Chris Eaton and speaks out against the ever-present media pressure for physical perfection, at any cost.
Philippa said "After learning of so many people around me struggling with low self-esteem, and the rise of so many young people considering drastic surgeries to 'improve' their looks just made me so angry! The idea that you can 'make yourself amazing' via surgery and dieting is so unhealthy. We need a generation that have self-belief and who know that they are already 'Amazing'. GLOBE WOMEN MEET THREE NEW WOMEN PRIME MINISTERS
Australia in the Asia Pacific region, Finland in Europe and Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Islands all now have women at the helm running these countries. There are currently 9 women presidents and 6 women Prime Ministers among the 191-member nations of the United Nations. Finland is the only country with a woman President and a woman Prime Minister. Julia Gillard is the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Australia, who also heads up a major political party in her country. , Finland's new Prime Minister, Mari Kiviniemi, Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is also a lawyer by training, who graduated at the top of her law school class.
