SPOTLIGHT ON..
Helen Westropp and Julia Moore's Tapestry by TexTiles venture ... Inspired and creative businesswoman Helen Westropp, Fellow of the RSA and friend, tells us in her own words about her latest venture... Tapestry by TexTiles. Here's a small selection of the many unique and ey-catching designs on their website.....
Naxos Keshte Suleiman
"Tapestry kits - perfect presents for Mothering Sunday, Easter, birthdays .... Our tapestry kits are unique! Concentrating specifically on creating unusual and original designs, Julia Moore and Helen Westropp have launched 12 different kits using top quality materials sourced from UK manufacturers. Each design has a story, created as a result of travels well off the beaten track. Using traditional ceramics, textiles and stone carvings from Asia, the Middle East and ancient Europe as the source of our inspiration, we have adapted the designs to fit 17" x 17" tapestries which will easily cover chair seats, stools or make fabulous cushions. Our colours and designs will complement a wide range of interior decorating styles. Each kit comes with an ethically produced calico bag, enough Appletons tapestry wool to complete the tapestry in continental tent stitch or half cross stitch, needles, instructions and the printed canvas. The designs are worked on 12 point canvas giving excellent detail and covering a range of difficulty. Information and to order, visit our website Tapestry By Textiles or call Julia on 01949 842515 or Helen on 07884 366649. back to top... |
INTERVIEW WITH... Catching Up....An Interview with.... Women entrepreneurs are forever innovating, developing and changing their businesses - a major reason for survival to success. We're sharing with you some of the inspiring transformation stories we come across, which we hope you'll enjoy. Tell us what you think @ Valerie Catching Up..Interview with....Karen Williams...in her own words
Karen is a Director of Your Business Centre Tamworth. The centre provides service accommodation to small businesses, training conference facilities on flexible terms. "5 years ago, I found myself questioning work life balance. I had been involved in the textile industry for 15 years and wanted to come away from that. I was looking for a new business opportunity - that opportunity was Utility Warehouse! Utility Warehouse SAVES people money and it also MAKES people money. Initially, I was interested in saving money. However, by offering services to family, friends and businesses I started to MAKE money too. Utility Warehouse provides you with all the training you need. It's a bolt on business you can run part time, so it runs alongside my current business. I work when I choose to work. I have three children, so it's balancing my work life and having a family life. Utility Warehouse, owned by Telecomplus PLC is a FTSE 250 company voted 2009 "Company of the Year" by Financial Times. We SAVE people money on Consumable products that they use every day: Gas, Electric, Mobiles, Line Rental and Broadband. Your full training includes personal development, goal setting and using your time effectively, which I apply to all aspects of my life! Since joining Utility Warehouse, recognition I have received includes share options, bonuses and a 6* Mediterranean cruise! Free BMW mini Convertible and a Porsche Boxter for 6 weeks. All things I never had, even working for my own company! I attended training so many times they made me a trainer!! I now train new Distributors Getting Started and Leadership Development skills. But the Best thing about this business? Is that you do the work ONCE and get paid EVERY MONTH thereafter! I now have the fastest growing team in Utility Warehouse, with over 1700 Distributors and over 13,000 group customers! Challenges? Hardest thing was networking, walking into a room not knowing anyone was daunting. Personal development that Utility Warehouse provides helps you to overcome these issues. It's suited to all women, especially those at home with children fearful of going back into the work place, to get back into earning and raise their self esteem. Women are successful at Utility Warehouse because they're flexible, have big groups of friends and family and enjoy talking! Every day is different. I'm meeting people all the time.! Balance between two businesses? I plan my day in detail and block me-time, from yoga class, running, or meeting friends for coffee! I'm home when my children return from school because it's important to be there for them! What's been most challenging at Utility Warehouse? Stepping out of my comfort zone! Going to that first Network meeting! Now I attend on average 10 network meetings a month and in June 2008, I won the a prestigious award - "Connected" Switched-on Business Link Award Becoming a Utility Warehouse trainer - Public Speaking was my biggest fear! The Future? My five year plan is National Marketing Director by 2011! My Goal is to help and support as many people, especially women, to achieve their Goals and to give them the choices to do "What they want to do, whey they want to do it! " Success factors? Set yourself Goals - small, medium and long term. Have a Positive Attitude and Believe in yourself! Words of Wisdom? Be the Best that you can be! Have Gratitude and appreciate everything you have in your life. MAKE MONEY Your Money SAVE MONEY Your Opportunity Call me, 07976-962986 back to top...

INITIATIVES & PROJECTS Challenge for Haiti's Children update
Philippa Hanna - Ave To Love - raising funds for Haiti's Children
Pamela Pindar, Managing Director of local to global business and Payroll & Business Solutions and the Human Resources Document Shop was first off the mark to donate - even before our online giving site Just Giving/Ave To Love was fully functional. Gary Dwyer, who we asked to check the functioning issue, was so impressed that he made the first online donation while helping us out. Faye of Keep Your Fork, Keep Your Fork already a fan of Philippa's and gig-goer, has offered to work with Philippa in UK schools to raise awareness of the children's plight and our plans to help Celia Pontin of Contemporary Cool Art was quick to come up with a fantastic idea for a separate project to work with the children through art to create something beautiful and inspiring. More when we've finalised it but have a look at Celia's brilliant work Contemporary Cool Art
50 people have signed up to each sponsor a different child for a year through Compassion as at today. All proceeds will go to the Charity. Those of us already involved take no fee, all supporters will be publicly recognised and Thank You again...whatever you can manage will be appreciated. If you've yet to support us either donate or email Valerie with your offer. No matter how small or simple it may seem to you - to this quest it is priceless, whether it's pulling in friends and colleagues for their ideas, a small donation, offering your own service/s to get the widest reach and sales for this single, simply passing info on to your own networks, promoting, blogging, or buying the record when it releases - we know these are tough times but for some.... it is even tougher right now..... Let me know by email what you are prepared do - we're counting on YOU...email Valerie by return, please... back to top... |
BOOK REVIEW - GUILT TRIP - From Fear to Guilt on the GREEN BANDWAGGON - Bambos & Neophytou
Despite being a champion for environmental sustainability, I was a little sceptical before I got to grips with Guilt Trip. The whole arena of environmental sustainability, green issues, climate change is enjoying something of an unfortunate paradox right now from whichever side of the fence you sit on. However, after devoting the time to study as well as read this packed and thought provoking 266 pages, I wanted to give everyone a copy. You really need to know all that's in here - it will confirm some beliefs but surprise you with others - like the marketing of a drink as a sleep inducer on one continent and a pick-me-up on another! And both work! Valerie's book reviews here back to top... |
