February 2010
A
Greetings!

Valerie Dwyer My Wonderful Life Coach(tm) & other enterprises  Reports just in of issues with some weblinks - we think this updated version will now fix it.

Remember me wishing you a Healthy, Happy and Successful New Year? Well, now I'm asking for your help to spread this to Haiti.....let me know how you can help this quest
PLEASE HELP US SUPPORT HAITI'S CHILDREN....."It is far greater to give than to receive...". You know that I don't usually ask for your help, but this is a rare occasion. Together, we can do so much more, especially this particular challenge. I have agreed to support an entrepreneurial young lady, a female singer songwriter who is about to launch her latest record within the next week or so - a sure-to-be hit with your help, dedicated entirely to raising substantial funds and support for Haiti where it is really needed -for the children...
She has been out in Haiti recently with the children. From her song video you'll see before and after scenes - she really knows how these children have been affected and the help they now need.....and has teamed up as Ambassador for the key global charity lined up to
do the work...
All proceeds will go to the Charity to do this work and those of us already involved are taking no fee. You will receive recognition, credit for your input but, more than that, the gratitude of all the children who will be helped. Whatever you feel that you can offer, no matter how small or simple it may seem to you - to this quest it is priceless, whether it's pulling in friends and colleagues for their ideas, a small donation, offering your own service/s to get the widest reach and sales for this single, simply passing info on to your own networks, promoting, linking to, blogging, or buying the record when it releases - we know these are tough times but for some.... it is even tougher right now.....
Let me know by email what you are prepared do, subject to receiving the full information from me shortly, which you will of course want to know, and agreeing the extent of your involvement. Then we can co-ordinate and shape into an Action Plan. We're short of time - and we're counting on YOU this time...email me by return @valeriedwyergroup please
As always, lots more news updates plus opportunities below so you may want to come back and revisit...
Your thoughts are always welcome and I'm here to help. Need a one to one into developing your business potential? Want support to make 2010 your best year ever? Just email to discuss - click

  to set the ball rolling..

BOOK REVIEW -  GUILT TRIP - From Fear to Guilt on the GREEN BANDWAGGON - Bambos & Neophytou
From Fear to Guilt on the GREEN BANDWAGGONDespite being a champion for environmental sustainability, I admit to being a little sceptical before I got to grips with Guilt Trip. The whole arena of environmental sustainability, green issues, climate change is enjoying something of an unfortunate paradox right now from whichever side of the fence you sit on. However, after devoting the time to study as well as read this packed and thought provoking 266 pages, I wanted to give everyone a copy. A review is so limited because whether you are in business, a student or consumer - you need to know all that's in here.
The authors have first class strategic and marketing credentials, know what they are talking about and do with some humour. What they are calling for, all we all need, is....full review

World Entrepreneur Society, Launch of 'Hidden Social Enterprise' Report, London, 11 MARCH 2010
WES Colleague and Founder Rebecca Harding invites you to the launch of this new report on measuring and benchmarking the social enterprise sector. Vicky Pryce, John Elkington and Renate Hornung-Draus (who is MD of the German Employers' Federation) have agreed to comment on the report and there will be a discussion led by NESTA, UnLtd and Eastside Consulting.
The report seeks to identify the "Hidden Social Enterprises" within the general entrepreneurial population, to measure their growth and growth potential and to examine the challenges, opportunities and barriers that they face as they grow.  It is from the COGS data - asks about motivations and nearly 50% say that "Making a Difference" was an important trigger in setting up a business. Of these, around 43% say that Making a Difference was their primary motivator and nearly all of these re-invest their surpluses in order to achieve those objectives.  It looks at tighter definitions of social enterprise (for example reinvesting and not paying a dividend to shareholders and reinvesting, not paying a dividend to shareholders and having >50% of their revenue from sales). The full programme is here WESSociety and we hope you will be able to come along.  If you are able to come, please click on this link to book your free place: Booking Form                                      back to top...

REPORTS Cherie Blair Foundation study 'Cellphone Gender Gap: Less Wealthy Women Less Likely to Own a Mobile'
Women & Mobile Report   Cherie Blair's group proves women's economic disadvantage of reduced ownership and potential profits to firms in fixing the gap. In her introduction, Cherie Blair writes, "What shines out of this study is that Women and Mobile represent an untapped market and great development potential that we need to embrace." The study, by the Cherie Blair Foundation, the GSMA Development Fund and Vital Wave Consulting, found that the poorer the region and the less empowered women are, the greater the gender disparity in cellphone ownership. The gap was smallest in Eastern Europe/Central Asia, at 16%; it was greatest in South Asia, at 37%. By comparison, in Western Europe more women than men have cellphones. It includes a host of information - full report

RANKING COUNTRIES IN TERMS OF WOMEN'S BUSINESS LEADERSHIP: THUNDERBIRD REPORT

Amanda Bullough   Amanda Bullough, Assistant Professor at Thunderbird's Walker Center for Global Entrepreneurship, recently developed a ranking of 115 countries based on women's participation in business leadership.  Her sometimes surprising results challenge the assumption that developing countries can be lumped together as less progressive in terms of women's progress.  Her paper found several developing economies with high rates of women in business - Ghana, Rwanda and Botswana, for example - which were in the same cluster as Switzerland, Canada and the United States.
Meanwhile, developed countries such as Germany and Japan ranked low in women's business leadership participation.  The lowest level in Dr.Bullough's scale were countries with minimal participation of women in business leadership - India, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  "Until you can establish security and health care and basic nourishment, you're going to have a tough time getting anybody - women or men - involved in entrepreneurship or business leadership," states Dr. Bullough.  She also added that "countries with high proportions of women in political leadership do not necessarily have high proportions of women in business leadership." The fifth or highest level for countries with complete equality of women and men across industry and occupational roles has yet to be achieved, in her view, by any country.  (Source:  A, Bullough, "Institutional Factors Affecting Women's Participation in Business Leadership Around the Globe.") QUOTE OF THE MONTH!   Avivah Wittenberg-Cox, CEO, 20-first tells us - Why Words Matter: Dump "Diversity," Paint a Mosaic
"This month I had the pleasure of spending a morning with some HEC MBA students. Looking around the room, at a group made up of 9 nationalities, 50% men and 50% women, it struck me. This isn't "diversity" - this is the new normal. The underlying meaning of the current use of the word "diversity" in business labels certain groups as something different from the norm. The norm being homogeneity. But that norm is long gone in global business. "Diversity" is one of the words whose time has come ... and gone. I propose renaming Diversity & Inclusion. How about Mosaic Management?" More at 20-first
