MARCH 2009
Dear ,

Welcome to the March 2009 edition of the PASSUR® Pulse™ Airport Finance eNewsletter created exclusively for the PASSUR Pulse community. I'd like to extend a special welcome to our friends in Airport IT who are receiving the newsletter this month.

That's because in early April we'll be attending the ACI Logoannual ACI Business Intelligence Technology/Economics & Finance joint conference, as we've done for several years - where our IT and Finance communities converge. It's a great forum for us to listen to our customers - and inform them at the same time. You can catch up on the latest PASSUR news that we'll be briefing about in our preview piece on the ACI BIT/Econ conference below.

This month has been busy; several new airports joined our ranks and others added new services. Below, we have a chat with Alex Kashani of Washington Dulles International Airport. Dulles recently signed on for our Airport Business Intelligence Reports, and Alex explains why.

We just completed our annual Landing Fee Management User Conference, held this year at DFW. We'll give you a full review in next month's issue, but there's a quick snapshot of the key themes and benefits discussed below.

Thanks for reading. As always, if you have ideas or questions, please send them over to me, Ron Dunsky, at rondunsky@passur.com.
Interview with Alex Kashani From Washington Dulles on Business Intelligence Reports
In February, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) became the first facility to begin receiving our automated Airport Management Business Intelligence Reports - formatted, summarized andDusk on the Ramp processed reports of critical operational metrics, providing a snapshot view of key airport performance indicators. We sat down with Alex Kashani, Business Officer, Airport Operations at IAD, to learn more about their decision.

PASSUR: Why did you decide to subscribe to PASSUR Airport Management Business Intelligence Reports?
Alex Kashani: We have been using PASSUR operations reports for the past five years, so we knew we had access to all the raw data. However, these new reports summarize and sort key airport activities, and deliver the information daily in an easy-to-tabulate format for detailed analysis.

PASSUR: What do you think will be the biggest benefit to IAD from these reports?
Alex Kashani: It gives upper management and stakeholders a snapshot of what flight activities took place, along with daily trendlines of any major activities. It keeps them on top of our key business metrics at a time when that oversight is essential.

PASSUR: Since you've started using the reports, what have been the main benefits of the information? Any surprises?
Alex Kashani: We have been able to follow hourly trends and schedule our major maintenance activities accordingly. One unexpected benefit was our ability to minimize the potential of disruption caused by construction scheduling for IAD's upcoming runway rehabilitation, based on the detailed, hour-by-hour usage statistics the reports give us.
Highlights from the Annual PASSUR Pulse Landing Fee Management User Conference
Our users just completed the annual PASSUR Pulse Landing Fee Management user conference at DFW. We'll be doing a detailed review of the event in next month's issue, but here are some highlights:
  • A major US carrier did a terrific Q and A session on their centralized and automated approach to managing landing fees, and how the PASSUR Pulse program (with which they interact at several airports) fits in well with their innovative approach. The value of getting all airlines more deeply involved as partners from a corporate level - rather than at the station level - was discussed extensively and will be explored further.
  • Users emphasized the value of getting access to landing fee funds even just 30 days sooner (revenue recognition, lower borrowing costs and greater interest earned).
  • Presentations and discussions were held on alternate uses of PASSUR data, statistics and reports to enhance revenue - such as Remain Overnight activity, FBO handling of flights, accurate weight validation, and seat counts as a metric for gate utilization.

PASSUR at the Annual ACI BIT/Econ Conference in Seattle April 6th-8th
As we do every year, PASSUR will be sending some of our key team members to the ACI Business Intelligence Technology /Economics & Finance joint conference, held this time in Seattle, April 6th-8th. This is always a terrific opportunity for us to listen to the latest requirements and hot topics amongst our airport and system integrator partners, on both the finance and IT sides of the house. It's also a great chance for us to update you on what's new with PASSUR. This year, we are focused on (and we'll be talking and soliciting feedback about):
  • Quicker revenue recognition and cash collection for our landing fee partners: This was a main theme at our just-completed annual PASSUR Pulse Landing Fee Management User Conference (see above, and more on that next month) - lowering the cost of borrowed operating funds, increasing the amount of interest earned, and accruing revenue sooner - all from the quicker collection enabled through our automated landing fee management program.
  • Our new integrated and standardized data feed for Airport Operational Databases: Airports are now accessing a comprehensive PASSUR operational activity feed to support multiple business processes that are controlled by AODBs. We'd like to hear your thoughts about it.
  • Airport Management Business Intelligence Reports (see the Alex Kashani interview above): Insights for airport management into critical airport operations performance metrics, and leading indicators and trends, through automated, emailed reports. Given the business challenges airports are facing, and since this is one of the conference discussion panel topics, we believe this subject is timely.
