The New Approach to Landing Fees
|
Airports today are expected to capture all revenues from all flights, assure their airline partners that fees are levied fairly, transparently, and efficiently, and explore new avenues of activity-based revenue.
The legacy system of airline self-reporting has become a complex, time-consuming and inefficent process.
The PASSUR Landing Fee Management Program and Airport Management Business Intelligence Reports put airports in control of these critical revenue streams by giving them and their airline partners the independent, standardized and accurate information tools they need to enure:
- Complete revenue capture
- Quicker revenue recognition and payment
- Effective forecasting and analysis

| Surprised? Air Carriers Support Streamlined Landing Fee Management |
Since PASSUR Pulse helps airports increase their revenue streams from operators, you might expect that air carriers would have concerns. Actually, the exact opposite is true. The main reasons for this, according to interviews with airport finance professionals, are:
- Everyone now pays their "fair share," because a much more complete set of billable activity is captured - such as non-scheduled flights (including diversions, cargo, charters, corporate) - so there is no "subsidizing" of one set of users by another for airfield charges
- The information supporting the landing fee program - flight activity, aircraft weights, aircraft variants - is independently calculated using radar data and comprehensive aviation databases, creating transparency and confidence
- Airports with this program in place are seen to be adhering to the highest levels of business best-practices
In the words of one of the PASSUR landing fee program users - "the airline response has been phenomenal!" Check out all the comments in the Airport Finance Professionals video account of the new landing fee program. |

| Watch Your Airport Finance Peers Talk About the New Approach to Landing Fee Management |
Recently we released an online video featuring finance professionals from airports around the country discussing the highlights of the new landing fee management approach they have adopted. The overall theme? Greater control over this critical piece of airport revenue. Click below to watch the 4 minute 53 second video.
The video highlights the following:
- Timely and Complete: Airports report that they are collecting their fees quicker, and with more completeness, including operations that typically go un-tracked, like diversions. "I can finalize my invoices by the first or second of the month."
- Efficient and Cost Effective: A single individual can manage the entire airport landing fee process in a few days: "We're not chasing the carriers down to receive their self-reports anymore."
- Airline Support: As noted earlier, airlines are enthusiastic supporters of these new programs, because of the fairness, transparency and business professionalism they introduce. "The airlines can feel comfortable in knowing that every airline is being treated the same."
- Predictability, Planning and Forecasting: Seat projections, parking and concessions, RON fees, impacts of cancellations, gate utilization - are among the metrics that are tracked by airports using the PASSUR program. "Executives can look at what's happening in their business and make adjustments."

| Why Airport Business Intelligence Reports Are Important |
|
Good, accurate data is one of the most important contributors to successful airport management, yet often that data can be hard to find.
PASSUR Airport Management Business Intelligence Reports are designed for busy airport managers and directors who need summaries of critical operational metrics. Compiled and formatted as a snapshot view of the key performance indicators at your airport, they are an easy way to use PASSUR statistics and reporting without the need for any work by airport staff. The following reports are available:
- Operations Activity Report - a summary and detail of operations activity (domestic, international, regional and GA)
- Runway Utilization Report - runway usage per hour and by aircraft type
- Gate Utilization and Estimated Passenger Volume Report - Gate utilization by carrier, including calculated passenger counts.
- Volume Trend Report - flight and seat counts, week over week/month over month
For more information on how you can get reports automatically emailed to you daily, weekly or monthly, please contact a PASSUR airport specialist at sales@passur.com |
