People sometimes tell me they don't know what to put in their company newsletter. I keep a Word document where I copy and paste all the ideas I collect between each issue. When I look at it to compile the next edition, I find I always have more than enough to say! If you like this newsletter, please pass it on to people you know who may appreciate it (there is a 'forward' link in the footer). If you don't like it, please tell me. Your single most persuasive selling tool
If you don't use testimonials and case studies in your marketing communications, you're missing a trick.
We get so many sales messages bombarding us these days, that we see through most 'marketing speak'. As consumers, we know you are after the money in our pockets, and we don't want to give it to you (unless you really can convince us you provide what we want).
But, if someone exactly like us says: "Hey, I used so-and-so and they were really good!", we are much more likely to buy.
As a supplier, it's all very well sharing testimonials that say: "Thank you, you were great." It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling when clients tell you that. But it doesn't help your marketing as it doesn't tell the whole story to potential customers.
What you really need is a testimonial in the format of problem : solution : results. As Lesley Morrissey commented last time I wrote about testimonials in this newsletter, people buy results.
In the client's own words, start with the situation before you got involved, explain what you did to help them, and finally what results you achieved. For example: "I needed an electrician to fix the faulty lighting in my kitchen. Acme Electrics did a wonderful job at an affordable price. Now I can see what I'm cooking!"

Q. How much time do you spend on social media marketing?
A. It's worth allocating about the same amount of time as you would to attend a face-to-face networking event. Setting up my profile on each of the sites I belong to (Ecademy, LinkedIn, FaceBook and Twitter) took up to half-a-day each. Checking what going on with each of them each day takes about 15 minutes. It's just part of my routine, like checking my online bank statements!

On a Personal Note
As you may know, scuba diving is one of my favourite hobbies. I have been lucky enough to dive in exotic locations all over the world, have seen some amazing sights - sealions in Mexico, mantas in the Maldives, dolphins in the Red Sea - and logged my 100th dive in the BVI in May. I'm a PADI Master Scuba Diver (the highest non-professional level) and one of my qualifications is in first aid.
On that subject, I have a client who trains paramedics in the UK and Nigeria. I've edited and designed booklets and manuals for him on a range of subjects, including fractures, oxygen therapy and automatic external defibrillation.
There is a point to all this!
So I was interested to learn that the British Heart Foundation aim to raise £100,000 to fit defibrillators in London tube stations. Support their campaign.
