Success with Social Media

Social Media may be a new, exciting, fun and for the most part FREE way to advertise, but success is accomplished the same way as any other medium.

Content and message !!  It does not matter if you have the biggest ad in the yellow pages or the most air time on your local radio station, if your advertising lacks content and a clear message it will have very limited success if any.

Social Media magnifies this tenant tenfold.

Companies that have the most success on social media do not "push" information.

Examples of pushing information

"Affordable answering service is available with the support of hosted PBX system"

"Phone Answering Service - Don't Miss Any Calls!"

"Excellent telephone answering service, invaluable. Reasonably priced..."

"We offer live phone answering service as well as Innovative Voice Response services for all your reservation needs."

"For over 25 years we have been providing professional 24 hour live telephone answering services."

Companies that succeed using social media provide content, message and value.  They also use social media to interact with their "friends" and "followers"

An excellent case study is www.twitter.com/hrblock

This very recognizable name is not using social media to "push" information like

"need tax help call now "

Or

"100 + years of tax expertise available with a phone call to .... "

H & R block is taking questions from people.  Someone asks them a question and they ask the person posing the question to follow them and send them their contact info so they can use more than 140 characters to answering their question.  This is pure genius!!

They are also providing links to common questions and information that can assist someone in filling out their taxes.

This furthers their position as an expert and a company that is willing to help others.  It is also providing them a database of people they can market their services to next year and the next year etc. Those people who they helped this year with a simple tax question on a 1040EZ form may need more help next year or in the future as they get married, change jobs have children.  Who will they turn to when they need someone to do their more complicated tax returns?  Why H&R Block of course.
