Greetings!
I need your help! I am about to start a Facebook page only for Girls--middle school, high school, college and even older, so I can share health and life tips more easily. BUT I can't figure out what to call it.
My regular Facebook fan page is called "Dr. Susan Bartell" so it needs to be something different. I need thoughts and ideas. The one idea I have is "Dr. Susan for Girls Health". Do you like it? Is it too long? Any other ideas. I'm also wondering if it should be a fan page or a regular page. Tell me your thoughts!! Email me at drsusan@drsusanbartell.com. Thanks!!

Getting enough dairy! |
Dear Dr. Susan,
Do teens that are somewhat (or even very)overweight, but still growing, need to drink as much milk and eat as much dairy as others, since milk and dairy are fattening and high in calories?
--Wondering about my health
Dear Wondering,
This is a great question that so many girls ask me! YES you do need milk and dairy because even when you're overweight you body still needs the nutrients in dairy--especially calcium (teen girls need about 1300 mg of calcium a day). BUT, there are different kinds of dairy--some healthier than others. If you stick to the healthier kind and limit the less healthy, you'll have a great balance. Check out the list below to help you out.
Healthy Dairy: Lowfat or nonfat milk (8 oz=300 mg of calcium), lowfat or nonfat cheese and cottage cheese, lowfat and nonfat yogurt (not too much of the kind with artificial sweeteners)
Less Healthy Dairy: full fat milk, cheese and yogurt, ice cream
If you don't like dairy: Calcium fortified OJ, calcium fortified cereal (watch serving sizes), dark leafy green vegetables, dried beans, salmon, sardines, a calcium supplement. |
