What for: SOAR (Spin Off Autumn Retreat) volunteers needed. The SNPDC is looking for volunteers to work the fiber booth for the Suri Network. No fiber experience required!  Just a friendly face and a positive attitude about Suri!

What's in it for the WI farms: This event draws 300 of the best fiber artists from all over the United States. Here is your opportunity to market Wisconsin Suri fiber and farms!

Can WI farms make any money at this? YES - Send your fine fleeces to Chris Rogers and the SNPDC is offering to sort and grade your fiber for free. Chris will keep a tally of all the fiber coming in and where it grades out. They will send it out to be processed in batches, and we will offer a collective of WI fiber for sale at SOAR. SN will take a 15% commission, but the rest of the revenue is yours (after processing expenses). Chris will let you know your proportionate share of the processing expense, and your profits will be paid based on the quality of fiber you send in. Any roving and yarn left over will be sent back to the farms for further sale, or you can commission us to sell it at another event in 2011.

How can we be sure it will sell? The SNPDC can't make promises, but we can offer you our advice on what we see selling in order to give you some guidance. We can also tell you that SOAR is going to be offering a three-day course just on spinning Suri. So, there are going to be a number of people looking to purchase fiber after their class. Additionally, the overall interest in Suri from prior SOAR attendees has been huge, and since this is our first year selling at SOAR, we think product will move.

What kind of fleece should I send to Chris? Send them your best - let's show SOAR attendees what WI can really produce - fleeces below 23 microns are ideal, colors such as light brown and darker fawns are really tough to move, so we suggest focusing on white, light fawn, black, any kind of greys, and maroons or dark browns. And, please send in fleeces free of vegetable matter and second cuts - that stuff doesn't necessarily come out in processing.

Many of you signed up for the SNPDC's fiber seminar this past winter. Now here's your chance to make some money with your new found knowledge!!
