New for 2011! New York Heritage Weekend
May 14 & 15, 2011
Join us for New York Heritage Weekend - a statewide celebration of New York's history and culture. Modeled after France's popular annual event, "Les Journées du Patrimoine," New York Heritage Weekend will showcase the Empire State to residents and visitors alike and help kick off the summer tourism season.
Who can participate?
Historic sites, museums, architecturally significant buildings, historical societies, battlefields, historic districts, and any resources that connect directly with New York State heritage are all invited to participate. While many of these resources are open on a regular basis, we also want to encourage sites that are not open to the public to open their doors for this special weekend.
What's involved?
Participating sites will be featured in a promotional campaign designed to raise awareness of these resources and encourage the public to explore all reaches of New York State and learn more about our shared heritage. Heritage Weekend events can include special programs, tours, open houses, free admission, discounts, or any event that celebrates our heritage.
What's next?
If you manage, are involved in, or know of someone who is associated with an organization, site or community in New York State that is interested in participating, please save the date and spread the word. Start thinking about what type of event or activity you'd like to offer. There will soon be a dedicated website where you can register your event.
More information about this exciting weekend will be coming to you soon! Please contact Lori Solomon-Duell at the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor at lori_duell@partner.nps.gov or 518-237-7000 ext. 220 with questions. |
