Kayak/Canoe Access to Expand
red kayakRecreational, non-motorized boat access to the Hudson River and Lake Champlain will soon be expanded as a result of grants awarded through the Environmental Protection Fund's Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. Twelve communities, including four in the Erie Canalway, received funds from the 2009-2010 budget for the development of new or refurbished "eco-docks."

Erie Canalway recipients include:
  • Albany County: $45,000 to enable the City of Watervliet to provide utilities to a proposed boathouse/storage facility at the south end of Hudson Shores Park to complement its newly constructed non-motorized boat dock.
  • Rensselaer County: $43,762 to enable the City of Troy to construct a non-motorized boat launch at the foot of Madison Street.
  • Saratoga County: $24,000 to enable the Town of Halfmoon to design and construct a dock for non-motorized boats at its Hudson River Park.
  • Saratoga County: $51,400 to enable the Town of Waterford to construct a floating dock system for non-motorized boaters at an area known as "The Point," just south of the Fourth Street Bridge.
The awards will serve as legacy projects of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial celebration, which marked the 400th anniversary of the voyages of Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain. For a complete list of projects, visit: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/pres/pr2010/2-05eco-docks.html.
