Dear SOM Friends, Students & Alumni,

Believe it or not, Thanksgiving has already come and gone, Advent is here, and Christmas is only weeks away.

With all of the hustle and bustle of the season, the School of Ministry wants to remind you to register for the Spring 2011 classes! They will be here before you know it - in fact, graduate courses begin the week of January 18th, AFF courses begin January 15th and CBS courses begin the second half of module 2 during the week of January 9th (Module 3 starts in March).

Did you know that you can take graduate classes for continuing education credit at the cost of only $250/course? Online options are available! This is a great opportunity for CBS & AFF graduates who want to learn more about their faith but aren't interested in pursuing a graduate degree. This spring's course options are various, including Ministry in the Church, Liturgy and Sacraments, Catholic Spirituality, Church History, Prison Ministry, and more. See the Spring 2011 schedule for details. Contact Julia Jakab at jjakab@udallas.edu or 972-265-5814 to sign up.

Also, AFF is going to be offering diverse and exciting courses this spring. Sign-up now for the most affordable and flexible SOM program. For just $100 per course with a convenient Saturday schedule, you can learn about topics such as Matthew: The Church's Gospel, Vatican II, Sacred Art-Sacred Space, and Becoming Human: The Final Frontier. Visit here to find out more or to sign up!

Make sure you check out the highlight video from this year's UD Ministry Conference. It can be found here. Thank you for making it the best one yet!

May you and your family be blessed this Advent season!

P.S. Adventus will be hitting your mailbox after the first of the year, but an online version will be made available before Christmas. See below for some previews!

AFF Makes a Lasting Impact in North Texas
- an excerpt from an upcoming Adventus article - the full magazine will be made available online before Christmas and the printed version will hit mailboxes after the first of the year -

... [In 2008,] the School of Ministry announced the end of the  [AFF] program, but God had a different plan in store. Due to the awe-inspiring generosity of several students in the program who willingly stepped in to fill the void, including Cyndi & David Freeman and Jill Peterson, the program has continued to flourish into its fourth and fifth years. While the program has morphed over its short history, one thing has not changed - the impact it's making on the lives of the students and the Church of North Texas (below, several students share their experiences)...

It has provided me with the opportunity to study, in depth, a wide variety of interesting subjects that are usually not available unless you are enrolled in a theology or post graduate program.
- Eumabel Colberg

The AFF program was the small door that lead to finding God's purpose for my life to serve his people as a full time minister. I love the fact that we have access to high quality Catholic education which is also economically accessible, and all the opportunities for continued education.

The Family Place Mosaic Project: UDMC's Living Example of Ministry

- an excerpt from an upcoming Adventus article - the full magazine will be made available online before Christmas and the printed version will hit mailboxes after the first of the year -

mosaicIn a special way this year, the 2010  Ministry Conference made living its mission to inspire ministry throughout the Catholic Church, the Dallas community, and the world.  Through the Family Place Mosaic Project, which was proposed and brought to fruition completely by volunteers, the conference largely impacted the greater community of Dallas and the surrounding areas with this outreach contribution, which will positively affect hundreds of women and children who seek shelter at the Family Place every year...
