Dear School of Ministry friend,

Diocese of Shreveport Coat of Arms The University of Dallas is pleased to announce that it will expand its Diaconate program to Shreveport Louisiana through the School of Ministry. The four-year program, in partnership with the Diocese of Shreveport, will include the academic component of Deacon formation, an expertise for which the UD School of Ministry is known.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the University's relationship with the Diocese of Shreveport. Bishop William Friend (ret) of Shreveport was a leading visionary in the creation of the School of Ministry (then Institute for Religious and Pastoral Studies) in 1987. The School began offering graduate programs in Shreveport in 2003 , its Catholic Biblical School in 2009, and now the deacon formation program.

The School of Ministry currently provides the academic component of diaconate formation in the Dioceses of Dallas and Tyler. The mission of the School of Ministry is to be of service to the local and regional church. By this agreement, the School continues to fulfill its mission.

The new program is scheduled to be available for students in the fall 2010 semester.  Course schedules and syllabi will be available in the coming months.

Summer in Rome Students Arrive on Campus

summer in rome imageStudents have arrived and have begun settling in to take part in the School of Ministry's Summer in Rome program.

Over the next two weeks, students will study the miraculous and incredible history of the Church in Rome, in the very center of Roman Catholicism. From Peter and Paul to Benedict XVI, students will visit the very places where they walked and preached, poring over the words they wrote.

The Summer in Rome experience will be rewarding on multiple levels. Not only will students be able to study in the heart of Rome and travel to different parts of Italy and Europe, but they will learn a lot about Italian culture through masterpieces of art, breathtaking architecture, monuments and museums discovering traits of the Italian lifestyle and tradition.
