Dear friend,
In the midst of the New Orleans Saints' Superbowl victory and the celebration that has followed, we also want to celebrate another successful start to the School of Ministry's 2010 events calendar.
With an audience of nearly two hundred, that included Bishop Kevin Farrell, University of Dallas faculty and students among others, the School of Ministry Seminar Series provided a welcomed and thoughtful panel discussion on the topic of What Does It Mean To Be Catholic Enough? Please visit our page Seminar Series for details of the event, including pictures and a chance to read the prepared response that each panelist presented addressing the challenges that Bishop Farrell's commencement address posed.
As we move forward into the month of February and the nation prepares for "Fat Tuesday" and the start of Lent with Ash Wednesday, the School of Ministry is in full preparation mode to host our second annual Lenten Day of Spirituality. Scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the University of Dallas campus, the day will include Fr. Donald Senior, C.P., member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, as the keynote speaker who will present "Preaching the Sacred Triduum." The Lenten Day of Spirituality will also include breakout sessions in English and a program in Spanish that will feature Dr. Ricardo Grzona, who holds a doctorate in Catechetics. Dr. Grzona will offer three sessions about Lent, Bible and Catechesis. For detailed information about this community gathering, including a program schedule, list of speakers and topics, cost, and registration, please visit the Lenten Day of Spirituality web page.
In March, the School of Ministry travels to the RE Congress in California and will host the University of Dallas Southern California reception. This reception will be Thursday, March 18, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Palos Verdes room located on the fourth floor of the Hilton Anaheim hotel. The Hilton is located adjacent to the Anaheim Convention Center, home of the RE Congress. For further details on this event, please join us on FACEBOOK to become a fan of the School of Ministry.
We also want to invite you to be a part of our Summer in Rome program. Slated for June 2 - 12, 2010, this program offers an opportunity to earn credit hours while spending ten days in the beautiful Italian countryside. Classes being offer this coming summer include Church History, Theological Reflection and The Rome of Peter and Paul. Regular registration ends February 28, 2010. Visit Summer in Rome 2010, for more information.
We hope this newsletter offers an insight into the events offered by the School of Ministry and hope that the Lenten Season provides time for reflection and new beginnings.
Sincerely,
Brian Schmisek, Ph.D.
