IX Bishop Search
Search Committee candidates for IX Bishop to be announced IX Bishop SearchSaturday
After many long months of prayer and conversation, the Bishop Search Committee for the Diocese of Minnesota will be offering candidates for consideration as the IX Bishop of Minnesota at 8 am this Saturday, August 1. An email will be sent to everyone on the Weekly News mailing list as well as clergy, wardens, diocesan leadership, and convention delegates. At that time, the names, bios, and additional information about each candidate will be made available on the search committee website, www.mnbishopsearch.org. Ready-to-print bulletin inserts and newsletter articles will also be available for download from the homepage of the diocesan website. With the release of these names, the period for petition candidates will begin, with the window for nominations concluding on August 14. Click here to find out more about how that works. If there are any additional candidates offered through that process, they will be announced September 25.
2010 diocesan budget
August meetings planned for Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Faribault
submitted by Joseph Dusek, Treasurer
In order to ensure we have as much dialogue and input as possible in the diocesan budgeting process, three meetings are scheduled in different parts of the state. They are:

Tuesday, August 18, St. Mark's Cathedral, Minneapolis
Thursday, August 20, Christ Episcopal Church, Grand Rapids
Tuesday, August 25, Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour, Faribault

Each meeting will begin promptly at 7 pm and end at 9 pm. The meeting on August 18 will be webcast live via the diocesan website. Comments will be enabled throughout the live event and, as much as possible, submitted to the conversation as it occurs. In addition, a podcast will be created from this webcast for later viewing on the diocesan website with comments sent directly to Joe Dusek, Treasurer, at treasurer@episcopalmn.org. Comments will be accepted through the month of August.

A draft budget will be available on the diocesan website later this week. In the meantime, a full timeline of the budgeting process is available on the website. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Joe Dusek or Jim Pavlik, Chief Financial Officer, 612-871-3308.

"When we left, we were excited, tired, and not sure what we were going to see.... We worked with other congregations, both Episcopal and non-Episcopal on a total of six houses.... We hammered nails, helped build a roof, sanded, mudded, painted, cut tile, installed that tile, and even installed a toilet."

Archbishop of Canterbury offers reflections on actions of GC09
Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams today offered his reflections on the actions of The Episcopal Church's General Convention. Read his full reflection on the Anglican Communion's website. Bishop Jelinek wishes to commend Williams' reflections to Minnesota Episcopalians, "The Archbishop of Canterbury has offered to the Anglican Communion a very thoughtful document that is too complex to easily summarize or characterize," reflects Bishop Jelinek. "We are a people who are proud to belong to a church where 'you don't have to check your brain at the door.' I hope each of us can take the time to read and digest all that is being offered in this document. The Archbishop of Canterbury has clearly worked hard not to malign any point of view, choosing instead to characterize how he believes each will impact the Anglican Communion. I look forward to the breadth and depth of the conversations this reflection will ignite." Read further reactions to Williams' comments on Episcopal Cafe.
