Bishop Search
Candidate visits ongoing
submitted by the Rev. Neil Willard
While your Search Committee for the IX Bishop of Minnesota is on the road visiting our eight remaining candidates in their current ministry settings, this seems like a good time to learn about other bishop search processes that are underway across the country.  More than a dozen dioceses are looking for a new bishop at the same time that we are.  Many have followed our lead and adopted a web-based approach to telling their stories and sharing information, including Connecticut, Kentucky, Oregon, Western New York, and Wyoming.  Please pray for others who are also seeking their next bishop as you pray for us.

Education for Ministry openings
submitted by George Martin
Education for Ministry (EFM) is that added level of learning about our Baptismal Vows that over four years of study and group discussion dives deeply into the Bible, church history and theology. Each group meets weekly. One will meet at St. Stephen's in Edina starting at 6:30 pm on Mondays, and the other will meet on Saturday mornings somewhere in Minneapolis. The Rev. Dr. George Martin is a co-mentor for two groups. The co-mentor for the first group is Christine Howard, and the co-mentor for the second is Dave Rodrick, both of whom attend St. John's in Linden Hills. If you're interested in either group or have questions send email to geoinmn@frontiernet.net or call 651-216-2329. There is a charge of $340 for the excellent materials and connection to EFM through the Seminary of the South.  NOW is the time to call and register. We start meeting in early September.

Meet Your General Convention Deputies
LeeAnne WatkinsLeeAnne Watkins
LeeAnne is a self-described 'General Convention junkie' who is also the rector of St. Mary's, St. Paul, the mother of a pre-teenage boy, a 20+ year experienced youth minister, and a mentor to youth, young adults, and not-so-young adults throughout the Diocese of Minnesota.

Apart from her service as a deputy, LeeAnne has been assigned to the Standing Commission on Ministry and will be working with the Chicago Consultation to move The Episcopal Church toward full inclusion for all the baptized in all the sacraments.

Through these experiences, she has developed a wealth of relationships across the geographical and theological spectrum.

"I love the church. I love the way we discern what new things the Spirit is doing in our midst," explains LeeAnne. "A good deputation needs not only new deputies with fresh eyes but also experienced deputies who know how to navigate the complex legislative system, and have relationships with deputies from other places. Having served as a deputy in the past, I have the relationships and experience and know that I love the work of General Convention. This year, in particular, I look forward to mentoring new deputies in gratitude for those who mentored me."
