This is more than a financial crisis.
The nation's soul is at risk right now,
and we have to look in the mirror to see our own role or our complicity,
if only by our silence.

Committee Preparing for Interviews
submitted by the Rev. Neil Willard
When your Search Committee for the IX Bishop of Minnesota met on Saturday, February 28, at St. Mark's Cathedral in Minneapolis, the most important task was to evaluate the 48 applications that had been received by the initial deadline. The application materials included answers to three essay questions, resumes with references, and information on their clergy profiles from the Church Deployment Office. Part of the process involved a "blind" review of candidate responses to the three essay questions ("blind," that is, without their names attached to their answers). The members of the committee believed this was the most fair and objective way to determine which candidates matched our diocesan vision for our next bishop. After a thorough evaluation, the pool of candidates was reduced from 48 to 22. More details about the next step in the application process will be included in future updates.

2009 Acolyte Festival: Learning a New Set of Skills
by Micaela Garcia, Nativity Episcopal Church, Burnsville
How to swing a thurible?  What is a thurible?
These were the questions I asked to myself as I sat in the pews at St. Mark's Cathedral, with other fourth and fifth graders.  Here is what I learned.  Fact one:  a thurible looks kind of like a bell, and holds incense that smoke rises up from.  Fact two:  in a church service, an acolyte/server walks up and down the aisle, like a flower girl would, swinging a thurible back and forth instead of tossing flowers.  P.S.  Always have a fire extinguisher. Read the rest of Micaela's reflection...
