5 Things to do on a Free Weekend Around Sydney

Australia Sydney is a fantastic global city with hundreds of things to do and see. While it's great to spend your time in the metro area, it's also nice to get out. Here are our top 5 things to do on a weekend just outside of Sydney!

Get to know the Aboriginals Australia's rich tribal history lives on today. Just outside the Aboriginal-owned botanic garden is Wreck Bay, a beautiful harbor that is the perfect place for a quiet retreat and an up close connection to the country's unique cultural history.

Go Surfing There is a great string of white-sand bays stretching up the New South Wales coast into Queensland where the waves are tall, and the sun is shining. Grab a board, and paddle out.

Paddle in the Pacific The South-Eastern coast of Australia is packed with pristine shores and smooth water. Places like Byron Bay are great for kayaking, canoeing, or just about any other water sport you can imagine.

Sink your Teeth in Hunter Valley, just north of Sydney, is the birthplace of Australian wine making. Restaurants there feature wines from the region as well as some gourmet cuisine to accompany. Take a tour of a vineyard, or just go for the scenery.

Look at the Lights Sydney Harbor is a magical place in the evening as the lights of the skyline glow in the night sky. Take a stroll along the harbor or view it from the water for breathtaking views.

Featured Alumni Profile:

Elise, Volunteer in the Philippines

Elise, a student from Utah, had a great experience doing a Deaf Education program in the Philippines. At the time Elise was studying to be an ASL interpreter and did the program to enhance her training.

Elise in the Philippines

"My favorite thing about working with the kids was seeing them get so excited about learning things.  I feel like I contributed to the organization.  Most of the children have never had access to a language they comprehend. When they come to school they not only learn science, math, Tagalog and English, but they learn to communicate with sign language. Being able to be a part of helping them learn to finally communicate was incredibly rewarding."

Tips for Travel Photography Success

            Ghana cute girl

With our summer photo contest in full swing, we thought we'd share a few of our tips to make fabulous photo memories that will last for years to come. Whether you're out photographing the famous sites, or documenting your daily life, the visual memories of your intern, volunteer or  study experiences will be priceless. Rather than having an album full of duds, follow these simple steps to make the most out of your camera.

Always have your camera. This may seem like a hassle, but if you don't have it with you, how will you capture that once in a life time sunset, or the wildlife gathering near by? Have a small 'point and shoot' camera that you can throw in your bag and pull out when that magical moment arrives.

Get lost. This is the travel advice you'll hear over and over again, and it even applies to your photos. Sure it's nice to have photos of national landmarks and monuments, but you're away on your study, intern, or volunteer experience for an extended stay. You've transcended from being a casual vacationer to a culturally immersed traveler and you'll want to bring something back to show others what you've seen. Most often, those ground breaking, culturally fantastic moments won't happen in tourist locations.

Think about what you are photographing. Whether you're going for the shot that will be framed in your parents living room, or just one that goes up on Facebook, think about what you are photographing and the results will be better. It's easy to get carried away by vast landscapes or be caught up in the song and dance of a festival. As a result, we often don't get the full effect of what we're experiencing on film. If you take a step back and think about the elements that you want to remember, you will be much better at capturing the moment.

Keep a journal. A journal is a must have in any travel experience because it helps you remember the little things that slip with time. Decades from now you won't be able to remember that funny story, or thrilling situation that went on around the camera, but being able to read it from your journal in your own hand writing will make the story come alive again.

What are You Doing This Fall?
Brazil Volunteer

Now that the stress of school and exams is over and summer is in full swing, it's time for many of us to think about what's around the corner. If your travel bug is acting up, or you're looking to get an edge on your resume, you might want to think about going abroad. Whether you're looking to move forward professionally with an international internship, or gain more hands on experience as a volunteer, World Endeavors has many programs to suit your needs.

Just imagine, instead of staying home you could be learning about the architecture of Italy with local professionals on sight, or advancing your business acumen with tycoons in Australia  with our internships abroad. Wherever it may be, working with a company in a foreign culture can give you the skills you need to move your career and your future forward.

If a volunteer opportunity is what you're looking for, think of yourself teaching local school children inTanzania, or helping deaf children communicate in Brazil. Global service is a great way to gain experience, help those in need, and see the world all at the same time.

Get in contact with World Endeavors today to plan for the fall, and have the experience of a life time. We offer international internships and volunteer experiences in a variety of fields and countries.  Our internships are completely customized to each participant's interests and qualifications and available year round!  We have something for everyone!

Maggie in Ireland

Maggie Nelson, one of our two superstar summer interns, was born and raised in Woodbury, Minnesota. She currently attends Arizona State University with a major in Film and Media Studies.

Maggie has recently returned from England where she studied abroad for the year. In her time in the UK, she found thrilling adventures, a passion for travel, great friends and a new love. One of her most notable escapades was a hair-raising exploration of the cliffs of Corfu, Greece by 4-wheeler. Maggie says she studied abroad because she had always wanted to go, and was inspired by family members who had done it before and had life changing experiences.

Now that she's home, she spends her time with friends, watching movies, basking in the sun at the beach and reading. She hopes to launch another adventure abroad in the near future. Maggie loves working at

World Endeavors she because she can help people realize their dreams to travel abroad! She adds that it's also interesting to see where people want to go and what they want to do.
