Top 5 Things To Do:
Bangkok, Thailand
1. Explore The Grand Palace. Consisting of several temples, palaces, and gardens, this was the official residence of the King of Thailand and all administrative government until the 20th century.
2. Experience Tuk Tuks. Riding in one is a must, as tuk tuks are a common (and
unique) method of transportation. Test your price bargaining skills before getting into one of these unconventional taxis!
3. Savor the food. From colorful street food stalls, to restaurants, to markets (including a unique floating market in Damneon Samnuak, Bangkok), to authentic cooking classes, Thai food is meant for sharing. So what better
excuse to meet people? Don't miss the fragrant jasmine rice- it's a Thai staple that goes with just about anything!
4. See Wat Arun. This "Temple of the Dawn" is said to have gotten its name because the first light of morning reflects off the temple's surface. Climb to the top for fantastic views across Bangkok.
5. Get out of town. Thailand is a choice destination because there's so much to see throughout the country. With affordable flights, trains, and buses leaving Bangkok regularly, it's easy to experience the vast array of attractions Thailand has to offer.

Meet Katie, Volunteer in Nepal
Katie volunteered at a school in Nepal during the summer of 2009. She says her international experience has influenced just about everything she does in her life, and most recently it has inspired her to start her own non-profit sponsorship program to help Nepali children receive quality education. During the program's first year, she found sponsors for 27 kids! "Everyone deserves the same opportunities, and I believe education is the way to put everyone on the same playing field," says Katie.
She believes in the importance of experiencing other cultures, and still feels an attachment to Nepal. Katie stays in contact with her Nepali friends through email and phone, and the children through letters. "Part of my heart is most certainly still in Nepal. World Endeavors definitely led me to what I know will be lifelong friendships."
In between visits back to Nepal, she spends her time building her sponsorship program, working at her parents' fair trade shop, and planning more trips abroad.

Going to Europe this summer? Tips for European Travel... Whether you are going there to work, study, or play, here are some tips from World Endeavors staff members to help make your European travel experiences unforgettable: -Use alternate forms of transportation. Public transportation in most European cities is excellent and affordable, and riding local buses, trams, and subways is a great way to get a feel for a new city. For longer distances, consider a train pass such as the Eurail Pass (note that this must be purchased before you go abroad), but also take a look at Europe's budget airlines, which can be a great option for shorter trips. -Pack light! Don't pack more than you'll want to carry in your backpack; you'll also want some room for any items you might buy while there. Bring clothing that can be layered. You'll thank yourself later. So will your back. -Work your Connections: Visit friends, relatives, and acquaintances in other countries when possible. Seeing a city through a local's eyes will show you what it's like to live there, and it's a sure way to cure "traveler's fatigue." If you are in a city but have no connections there, talk to other travelers or locals! Ask where the best local pubs are, musicians play, etc. Doing this will bring out the authenticity of the city. -Familiarize yourself with the language(s). This could mean taking language classes, learning some elementary words, or could even be as simple as bringing along a small guidebook with essential phrases. When you need to find a bathroom or water, your preparation will pay off. Learn more here about our opportunities to study or intern in Europe. | |
