Volunteer Programs in Deaf Education |
World
Endeavors offers two programs in deaf education. Our special summer program is held in Jamaica for 4
weeks in July. This is an intensive
literacy program with the goal of teaching English reading and writing skills
to Deaf adults in Jamaica.
The Fast Track Program aims to help more deaf adults get into college and to
put more Deaf teachers in Deaf schools all over Jamaica. Our year-round program in deaf education is
in the Philippines. Through the local Social Welfare Department, computer
classes are offered to local deaf children, who face many challenges growing up
in a developing country.

We have joined the social
networking phenomenon in order to help more people like you to get out there
and experience a different corner of the globe. What will our Facebook page say
about us? It will be all about how studying, interning and volunteering abroad
is good for you, your community and the globe. It's impossible to travel abroad
and not have your life changed radically. Plus, it's really fun.
What you will get by connecting with
us on Facebook - a way to
befriend others who have had a life changing experience through World Endeavors
or through travel in general, great close-up shots of our sites, and up to date
info on our global projects.
What you won't get - annoying invitations and pokes. OK, maybe an
invitation here or there - but definitely no pokes!
If you are interested in
becoming a global citizen or if you are well on your way to becoming an

WORLD ENDEAVORS' DIRECTOR MEETS THE PRESIDENT!
Last month, our fearless
leader, Tom Peden met someone very important. No, not George, or Hillary or
Barack or John. He met the newly inaugurated president of Guatemala,
Álvaro Colom. We had to know, where did you meet him? What was he like? Tom
apparently met him in the airport on his way out of the country and being a
good student of the world, he recognized President Colom. "I approached his
security detail and asked if I could meet the president," Tom relayed. Tom was
brought to the president and they chatted about the weather and World
Endeavors' new programs in Guatemala.
"He was very interested in our projects and was happy to invite volunteers from
other countries to spend time in Guatemala helping its people and
learning about the culture - he was a really nice, approachable guy." After a
photo op and well wishes, each flew on to other destinations. You never know
who you'll meet in an international airport.
