Greetings!

Huay Hee is home to only about 125 people.  They subsist on rotaional farming and community based tourism.  They're known for weaving and singing.  TBB students and program staff spent the past month living with them and learning about their life.  Students have been sharing this experience with people at home, not only through creative media projects, but also through TBB Skype Nights...
TBB Community Dinners

Emily with Thai FamilyTBB Community Dinners are a way to share the mission and story of Thinking Beyond Borders with interested individuals.  It is an opportunity to absorb a snapshot of the program, learn a bit about an international development issue, and speak with the TBB students abroad.  Community Dinners are great for friends, family, educators, college counselors, high school students, or anyone who is curious about what we do.  They are fun, interesting and help us to spread the word about Thinking Beyond Borders to a wider audience.  We welcome anyone who would like to host a dinner to contact Jen at jen@thinkingbeyondborders.org.

Mountains Beyond Mountains

by Tracy Kidder

Paul Farmer rose from a childhood in poverty in the US to earn his MD from Harvard Medical School - with which he continued to live in poverty.  Kidder's compelling story of Farmer's life and work chronicles his efforts to address public health needs in developing communities around the world including Haiti, Peru, and inner city Boston.  While Farmer's willingness to sacrifice all and passion for serving people are certainly inspiring, the story is most powerful because it illustrates the importance of his unique philosophy of public health.  Farmer has dared to offer "First World" care to the "Third World" despite the enormous cost.   Read More
So, TBB is growing.  We were honored to be invited back by the Huay Hee community and ISDSI.  We're touched as current students' families share TBB with their communities through Skype nights.  We're excited as new runners join the Cleveland Marathon Team.  And of course as potential students and staff continue to apply, the vision continues to grow.

We're in South Africa now - studying Public Health and the AIDs Epidemic and working with home-based care givers.  It promises to be an intense experience filled with personal stories and powerful learning.

Best,
