Last year, in the week leading up to April 26th, my friends and I were busy spray painting T-shirts, writing letters to newspapers, designing posters, collecting scraps of cardboard, and bugging everyone we knew to join us camping out at a park in New York. We weren't just going for fun; we were going to be part of Displace Me!, an Invisible Children movement in fourteen cities across the country protesting the war in Uganda. Read More |

Newest Member Joins the Teaching Team
It's hard to imagine a richer, more complex learning environment than the Thinking Beyond Borders program itinerary. When sixteen curious and accomplished gap year students travel the world to engage cultures, the global community's greatest challenges, and individuals working to create change, it's hard to imagine the learning being anything but life-altering. The task facing the TBB Teaching Team is to support students as they develop questions, assist them as they explore their assumptions, and share tools for articulating their understanding and personal growth. This is not your standard classroom teaching. Careful attention was paid to ensuring that the Teaching Team is comprised of experienced and dynamic educators to meet the intellectual and emotional needs of TBB students. With the recent recruitment of Nina Rubin to join Robin and Sandy, the Team is clearly ready for a powerful year of learning and teaching. Read More

TBB at Conference for Int'l Educators TBB attended the 60th Annual National
Association of International Educators conference in Washington DC. The conference included more than 9,000
delegates from over 100 countries and focused on promoting global citizenship
within international education. Key
speakers included President Vicente Fox of Mexico and Ishmael Beah, author of A Long Way Gone. TBB also participated in breakout sessions including
"Quantifying Program Results" taught by the Peace Corps, "Health and Safety
Concerns Within Study Abroad" taught by International SOS, and "Shifting Trends in Student
Global Mobility" taught by the Departments of International Education of Australia, Germany, and China. Overall it was a
very informative conference, and TBB is excited to continue working with NAFSA.

So, summer is off to a fast start for TBB. Chris recently returned from Costa Rica where he was finalizing details for orientation. Robin and I are in New Hampshire this week to obtain Wilderness First Responder certification from SOLO. TBB students and families are busy preparing for the program ahead.
We hope you're all enjoying these summer months as they get into full swing!
Sincerely,
Sandy Pendoley
