Greetings!

The exciting news this week is that our 501(c)3 status has been officially approved by the IRS, making all your generous donations to TBB fully tax deductible!  This also means we have a greater capacity to work with NGOs and other organizations both in the US and abroad.

This month we'd like to share other new developments within TBB and  some thoughts from our community.

Public Response to TBB

SchoolAfter TBB visited University School in Cleveland, Ohio, Headmaster Steve Murray commented, "Chris hit upon the tremendously important notion that our students need to be prepared to encounter and adapt to a rapidly changing global landscape.   With this in mind, it is clear to me as an educator that a gap year is no longer a luxury for a small number of high school grads who did not get into their preferred college.  A Gap Year spent with an organization like Thinking Beyond Borders will equip a young person with essential skills and experiences to thrive in and make the most of a challenging world."

Giving Beyond Borders
TiaboDecember is often thought of as the season of giving in America.  Corners are filled with red buckets manned by bell ringers, charities stuff mail boxes with requests for contributions, accountants highlighting the 31st as a donation deadline, and sermons reminding parishioners of the needs of the community.  Perhaps of lesser importance, shopping malls are packed with consumers driving the Nation's GDP in search of that perfect plasma screen gift as economists' forecasts mention Black Monday, bond market storms, and sub prime meltdowns.
KVK Offers Powerful Learning to TBB Students
KVKWithout a doubt, "development" is a controversial endeavor.  Even the definition of the term can lead to raging arguments.  Most who enter this field approach it with the best of intentions.  Yet, it's difficult to find projects of any scale that receive broad support from development experts.  The Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of rural India may be one of those rare success stories.  Thinking Beyond Borders has made a tentative partnership agreement allowing our students the exciting opportunity to learn from them in the field.
