Greetings!
With the Small Business Conference just around the corner we would like to direct you to take a step back and look again at your business and evaluate how to grow it.
The business paradigms in today's economy are Today growing a business requires a lot more than hard work. Everybody knows that we are in a knowledge economy and yet we still have the mindset of "I have to work harder, I have to put in more hours" to succeed and grow. It is very difficult for us to embrace the whole concept of growing our company and earning more by spending our time working on strategy and implementing changes. Many call it "working smarter". And as you might all agree with this concept. Doing it is the tough part.
If we are getting too deeply immersed in the business we cannot lead. If nothing happens without us, the less effective we become. At the same time people we rely on become more and more dependent on us because there is no time to give directions and set policies and procedures. We are flat out of time. The answer is to take a step back and focus, create a vision and a strategy.
When I meet potential clients they often tell me that this sounds great but where should they find the time. When we evaluate the situation, we normally find that one of their biggest mistakes is that they don't put enough value on their time. They perform work which can be easily delegated, outsourced or -in some cases- is not even necessary. By evaluating and reprioritizing we create the space for vision and leadership. And leadership is the only thing we cannot delegate. Without it we are just walking in circles. Leadership includes:
- Clearly defining and articulating the company's sense of purpose
- Knowing how we fill our market niche and how we differentiate ourselves
- Knowing how to attract customers and how to retain them
- And last but not least motivating and developing our employees and support teams.
