| Easiest Way To Improve TV Sound | $499 TV Speaker System with Wireless Subwoofer!
Here's something so slick, so ridiculously cheap that I'm still shaking my head. While most of Music's customers have a really good sound system connected to their TVs there are some who just listen to their TV speakers {groan!!!}.
For those of you who don't want the full-blown home theatre experience but wish every single program on TV sounded 100 times better the solution is available now at Music.
The Soundbar 3000 sits in front of your TV {wall mounting possible too} while the accompanying wi-fi subwoofer sits anywhere in your room with NO WIRES! Hide it behind a chair, under a table, in the corner, just plug it into the wall & voilà big time sound in a tiny package that increases your pleasure ten-fold.
A perfect solution, a perfect gift, perfectly inexpensive.

FIVE CDS THAT JUDY LOVES { I note that they are almost all women ~ Neil }
|
· EMM GRYNER ~ Gem and I
A 'duets' album on which every single song is excellent. Lush songwriting & captivating vocal collaborations from a variety and quality of musicians {e.g. Royal Wood, Joel Plaskett, Sara Quinn of Tegan & Sara, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard} that speaks to the depth of Emm's talent & respect. Don't let this under-the-radar indie singer-songwriter slip through your fingers. Besides, who knew that Trailer Park's Bubbles could sing?
$19.95
 · RUTH MOODY ~ The Garden
Winnipeg's Ruth Moody, founding member of The Duhks & Wailin' Jennys heads out with her first solo CD. From the first note it is obvious that Ruth's gift as songwriter and instrumentalist is the pivotal ingredient. Silken, seductive, heart-rending stories, gentle tunes, gorgeous production all combine to make this easily a favourite release this year.
$19.95
 · BONNIE DOBSON ~ Vive la Canadienne {Import}
A beautiful collectible German package {w. 38 page booklet!} of fine 60's & 70's songs resurrected from the folk vaults that will introduce new fans to this bright light of Canadian talent. Once fellow folkie with the likes of Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. Bonnie's home has been England for many years now, but recently several of her albums have been re-mastered and released on CD to the delight of those who know her lovely voice. $32.95
 · SARAH HARMER ~ Oh Little Fire
Upbeat, effortless and appealing, Juno-award winning Sarah, {the girl who is hell-bent to & will save the Niagara Escarpment}, ventures more into a pop style with this carefully crafted and deftly executed, disarmingly introspective, yet still light-hearted CD. She's assertive & infectious but particularly fine at making you feel very very good.
$18.95
 · DANNY MICHEL ~ Sunset Sea
Oh my, this little guy from KW makes a big impression. So much taste, such fabulous arranging, great guitar playing, so untiring, spirited, charming & oh so much FUN! We recently saw Danny and his FULL BAND in Waterloo. Impossible to sit still watching him, and the CD carries the same sun-drenched Island vibe throughout. Serious fun, good for stretching those sunny days into fall.
$16.95
& a few 'Guy' CDs from Neil:
Neil Young ~ Le Noise
Arcade Fire ~ Suburbs
Leonard Cohen ~ Songs From The Road

3D TVs ~ What's The Scoop?
|
 | |
Is all the hype worth it?? A novelty or a new product category?
The only thing constant in our business is change & with the advent of 3D TV, here we go again. Just as our clients were getting the hang of Plasma, LCD, LED, 720p, 1080p, 60Hz, 120Hz, 240Hz the game has changed again, or has it?
SO WHAT IS 3D TV?
Totally different from those red & cyan glasses Saturday movies I watched as a kid. Today's next generation 3D technology brings high-definition, full vibrant colour & an extra dimension you & I would call depth. Seems like you can reach right into the screen. World Cup finals were fascinating but also showed that broadcast TV still has a long way to go to get 3D right.
To watch 3D TV you need: a 3D capable TV, a pair of 3D active-shutter glasses {yes, a pair for everyone}, a 3D program provided by your Rogers, Bell or whichever service provider you use {check with them on their plans}, or, a 3D capable Blu-ray player & a 3D movie all connected by new HDMI cables {version 1.4 for the technically-minded} . . . . Whew!
3D TV is also different from the 3D used in the movie theatres {although the net result will be similar} so, if you accidentally left Avatar with the 3D glasses sorry, they won't work on your home's 3D TV.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Will you need a new cable box? If you subscribe to Rogers the answer is no, Rogers can do a firmware upgrade {we watched the World Cup final game on our three year old Rogers box at the store}. Will you need a new TV? Yes as TVs can not be upgraded by software to operate in 3D. Can 3D TVs be used for regular 2D TV enjoyment? You bet & that's where our new 'best' Samsung LED TVs shine. For the entire Spring & Summer at Music we've been selling these Samsung 'best' TVs on one merit only: They have the best TV picture on regular cable & regular DVDs that we've ever offered.
All Samsung 3D-ready TVs are also Samsung's best 2D TVs so if your current TV is as old as your marriage & it's time for a new TV, consider stretching from 'good' through 'better' to 'best' & you'll have a magnificent TV which, by the way, can also operate in 3D when you are ready.
WILL IT REALLY COME TO BE OR IS IT JUST A FAD?
Movies in 3D are slowly ramping up. Avatar will be released in 3D Blu-ray early 2011, new Harry Potter is being shot in 3D &, in TV-land CBC has announced that the Leafs vs Canadiens game December 11th & the Heritage Classic outdoor NHL game from Calgary will both be broadcast in 3D. In the USA Discovery channel will roll out a 24-7 3D channel in 2011, ESPN has announced a deal with the NBA so all of this suggests a glacier slowly but surely moving toward us.
On the other hand there are many who think the idea of watching TV with special glasses on is just plain absurd, that it's all a temporary craze driven by crazy manufacturers which brings me back to the beginning: All Samsung 3D-ready TVs are also Samsung's best 2D TVs so our spin is, buy these TVs because they are absolutely stunning & let the 3D chips fall where they may. Given that you should expect decades of brilliant viewing out of your new TV set we see buying a 3D ready TV as having your cake & eating it too.
Cheers, Neil

Thanks For Reading
| Sorry this newsletter was so long-winded. We have been crazy busy all summer long + we had a lot of Rosé to look into. Now we head into that great Fall-cooking season with braises, stews, nourishing soups, warming red wines & soon the seductive smells of the fireplace.
Two new restaurant finds lately: Alexa's Café in Sebringville & Kantina, 349 Talbot Street, London {between King & York}. Both restaurants are bistro-style , chef-owned & operated, the former by Alexandra Santos with hilarious, attentive {but mischievous} evening help from her husband Antonio {he's really a Dental Technician but straps on a waiter's apron & a Faulty Tower's persona as soon as his real job for the day is over}. Alexandra & Antonio are attractive & charming Portuguese natives, the made-from-scratch food features many local ingredients presented with Canadian & Portuguese tones, call 519-393-6970 to reserve. 22 seats, closed Monday & Tuesday.
Kantina is a small, tasteful, minimally appointed Serbian-flavoured lounge-like spot with homemade, quality, tasty and beautifully presented 'modern' food. Staff was exceptional & every dish offered to us {& my 91 year old Dad & 87 year old Mum} was attractive & delicious. I'm looking forward to a return visit & would be a great spot if you were seeing a concert at the John Labatt Centre, a block away.
Don't forget it's Beaujolais Nouveau Day Thursday, November 18th, and don't forget with the Stratford Festival officially wrapping up this week all our fantastic restaurants are easy to get into & most kitchens & wait staff are at their peak of performanc e.
And finally, yes the three girls {Margaret, Anne, Flora} are all doing well & doing their thing {only Buddy the Barn Dog is still living at home with us}. Have a great Fall, get cooking & remember, for the very best in Audio & Video gear {& unadulterated opinions on all of it} you just can't beat Music.
Cheers ~ Neil
