| Greetings! |
It's FALL and we have more new music than ever for you to cuddle up with as the days shorten. New CDs from old friends like Gordie Sampson, Carlos del Junco, Paul Reddick, Treasa Levasseur, Suzie Vinnick are reviewed below. Several new and emerging Canadian artists have piqued our interest as well, come in for a coffee and let us play DJ for you.
Have you been listening to CBC's New Two? We are loving it. Over the next few months tune in to 100.5 FM. Tom Allen's wit and wisdom wake us up each day (Molly Johnson on weekends fills in beautifully) and through the day it's a toss up as to whether we listen to Jian Gomeshi's 'Q' on Radio One (93.5 in our area) or the classical feast on Radio Two. Rich Terfry on the New Two afternoon Radio 2 Drive show is full of surprises, but the best part of all is the volume of Canadian artists all the hosts are featuring. And you know where you can find many of these amazing recordings don't you? If an artist is getting CBC airplay we're happy to stock the CDs!
Cheers
Neil & Judy

New Canadian CDs . . . just a click away
|
· Gordie Sampson ~ For the Few and Far BetweenGordie is a stellar songwriter, producer, singer, guitar (and other stringed instruments) player, and, as we discovered years ago in our living room a really nice guy to boot. Every song is a winner in this collection, treat yourself to the next ECMA multi-award nominee. Everyone should have a Gordie CD. $18.95 · Paul Reddick ~ SugarBirdThere is something dark and sexy about Paul's music, shades of blue so deep and varied that he transcends most artists in this genre. In fact it's not fair to categorize his music anywhere but in your ' play frequently' section. Colin Linden has once again worked his magic as producer and there are several interesting guest artists on this 4th CD of Paul's. Highly recommended. $19.95
· Susie Vinick ~ Happy Here Bluesy Suzie certainly sounds happy here. She is a singer / songwriter / guitar and bass player who surrounds herself with wonderful talent as only the best artists can. Produced by Stephen Fearing, with musical help from the likes of Kevin Breit and Kevin Fox, Tom Wilson, Gary Craig, and others. Suzie's honey rich vocals will keep you warm on these chilly fall evenings.
$19.95
· Treasa Levasseur ~ Low Fidelity We saw Treasa at John Drummond's Greenbelt Farm this summer and her second CD really captures the vitality and diversity of a blues singer who wouldn't be out of place in a gospel choir, jazz club or folksinger's coffee house. Treasa is a great songwriter as well, most of the tunes are written or co-written by her. Top-notch stuff.
$19.95 · Ron Sexsmith ~ Exit Strategy Of The Soul Elvis Costello, Paul McCartny, Elton John & Judy are all fans of Ron Sexsmith. Fantastic tunes galvanized by the 60's & 70's this is power-and soulful songwriter-pop at its best. Brandy Alexander {which he wrote for Feist} is a store favourite on this his 11th album. A conundrum, a low-key putterer & ponderer with tons of melody-rich tunes. This album should find a place on every Canadian music fans CD player. Get to know Ron Sexsmith!
$19.95
· Carlos del Junco ~ Steady Movin'
Carlos is on fire, or his harmonica is on fire or something! We enjoy a good dose of Carlos' take on blues old and new. This is NOT relaxing laid back blues ... this is party blues! His guests include Kevin Breit, John Dickie and 8' tall Matt Brubeck. This CD says 'play me loud' ... so do it!
$19.95
· Emma-Lee ~ Never Just a Dream
Toronto's Emma-Lee, with a Feist-like voice, makes you pay attention. This entire debut CD is drop dead gorgeous, ranging from lush doo-wop arrangements to downright saucy songs. iTunes said: "a touch of Patsy Cline's country heartbreak set against Astrud Gilberto's ease-and-flow bossa nova. We love it!" When a debut album garners nominations for Best Female Artist and Best Jazz Artist right out of the gate you know you should hear more of it!
$19.95
· Jill Barber ~ Chances For Jill's 4th release she teamed up with Ron Sexsmith to co-write the title tune, snagged the CBC's Glenn Gould Studio for recording and gave the whole package a good dose of personal touch. If you are a fan of the elusive Mary Margaret O'Hara give this CD a listen, you'll be hooked. Jill is Matthew's sister & an entire force on her own. Multi award winner this singer-songwriter offers up 10 original fully orchestrated lush songs from another time & place.
$18.95
· Susie Arioli ~ Night Lights Now here's an artist who knows her strengths. Dreamy crystal clear vocals, classic songs, simple arrangements, stellar musicianship, & attention to detail in recording and packaging. With CD # 6 Susie shows no sign of stopping. A great gift for any generation, perfect party music for a cool fall evening or an early Christmas gathering. Get Susie into your CD player soon.
$20.95
· Tony Gouveia ~ Fado Ardente Portuguese Fado (folk) music is currently enjoying a surge in popularity as more young artists discover the passion and beauty of this music. Tony's second CD is a blend of new original material along with Fado standards. If you can't get to Portugal this winter, enjoying this gorgeous recording (along with a glass of red wine) should make you feel better.

| Canadian Christmas Music |
Yep, it's
time again for Christmas music to hit the shelves. I can't believe that in just two months we'll be thinking of new and creative ways to use the turkey
leftovers! This year at Music we are stocking NEW Christmas
releases, if you want anything else it will be special ordered so don't
wait till Dec 24th! So far we have two stellar offerings, both from women who call the Stratford area home.
Loreena' McKennitt's latest CD 'A Midwinter's Dream' is a rich tapestry of sounds that evokes a caravan along the spice route to the part of the world that claims the Christmas story as its own. Multi-layered exotic instruments and Loreena's trademark ethereal voice create an interesting collection of favourite tunes.
Ali Matthews seals her reputation as 'The Christmas Girl' with her second Christmas CD. Another stellar production from Ali, and her musical partner Rick Francis, features well chosen classic songs with a few original tunes that are destined to become classics of their own. Ali is a talented artist who clearly finds joy and beauty in this special season, as her own songs illustrate. You'd have to be a confirmed Grinch to not feel at least a bit of the Christmas spirit after listening to this lovely CD.

Crazy crazy busy! That's been the summer at Music, a summer like no other we remember. Installation jobs have been piled up weeks in advance but thanks to our trusty & ever-so-wonderful helpers Ed, Horst, Paul & Eric {OK, Deb & Jane too} we have managed to get just about all of the work completed & we are ready for more! We snuck away for a week in September & headed to New Hampshire to the third oldest City in the USA {1632} to a town called Porstmouth {population 21,000, 98 restaurants, 5 theatres, on a busy port} where we ate, drank, toured & relaxed. Lots of stories & recommendations for anyone looking for same.
Less than 8 weeks until Santa shows up so plenty on the plate from here on in.
Thanks for being Music customers, thanks for supporting Canadian music & can you believe those Plasma prices? Welcome to our crazy business!!
