ˇ Melanie Doane ~ A Thousand Nights Wow, here's a great new summer CD! Extremely good covers, cool duets (w. Jim Cuddy, Ron Sexsmith & Melanie's actor husband Ted Dykstra!) and a fistful of tunes penned by Melanie. It all adds up to a stellar collection from this Nova Scotia-born Juno winner. 5th CD of happy upbeat music from this multi-instrumentalist {piano, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bass} & moving singer-songwriter.
$18.95
ˇ DK Ibomeka ~ I'm Your Man A success story that started in London Ont. This giant man with a big rich voice like amber honey will steam up your windows on even the hottest nights. If romance is on your agenda get spinning this CD. Distinctive, tender & soulful DK Ibomeka (pronounced ee-bo-MECK-ah) is one of the best new jazz voices in years. If you like Molly Johnson, Sophie Millman, k.d. Lang, Feist, welcome DK. 'I'm Your Man' might just prove correct.
$18.95
ˇ J.P. Cormier ~ The Messenger
Cape Breton's biggest export (sorry J.P., I couldn't' resist!) has so many talents that I have no idea how he decides which to feature on his CDs. We've waited since 2001's brilliant 'Now That The Work Is Done' for a new collection of songs and the poet in J.P. has been busy all the while: 14 brand new original songs. He nails the authorities to the wall on several rants but pulls it all off with stunning style and creative tunes.
$19.95
ˇ Various Artists ~ Noted! 'Project CDs' usually leave me wondering who would enjoy this and why? Not this one. Conceived by the Huron United Way as a vehicle for the songstresses of Huron County this talent showcase is stunning. Some great covers, some outstanding originals, seems Ontario's West Coast is hiding some great musicians! Pop this into the car CD as you head to the beach and let 17 Huron County women sing their hearts out for you.
$22.95

Who Is Treasa Levasseur Anyway??
|
Let us introduce to you the talented & vivacious headliner at this year's Greenbelt Concert in the Potting Shed near Bornholm. Treasa {think a different spelling of Theresa} is a Winnipeg native, Toronto resident who promises to be another surprise stand-out @ Greenbelt. John has a knack for finding these amazing artists who seemingly float just below the main-stream radar.
Treasa has only one album {Not A Straight Line}, a second in the works for a Fall release & we'll surely get a very deep peek at it as her Tour Schedule sets out Greenbelt as 'With my full band. Yeah!'
Remember: Greenbelt Farm, $20 tickets at Music for a magical evening of Treasa's assortment of blues, jazz, funk, rock, even a subtle hint of country. A powerful voice that can whisper & caress or blow you right off your chair.
Said the Ottawa Blues Society of Treasa: "Joni Mitchell, Etta James, Carole King and Dusty Springfield rolled into one".

ˇ Port Stanley was a lovely Sunday get away a few weeks ago with the grotty slowly but surely undergoing a transformation. Fresh lake perch was on just about everyone's menu as the trend to eat local continues to make sense & gain favour. M.E. & Suzie's main street patio features live music just about every Sunday afternoon, The Kettle Creek Inn has a great outdoor patio & gazebo. It's a town of fishing boats, friendly folks & decent food & wine. Port Stanley Info
ˇ Pazzo Ristorante upstairs boasts one of the most beautiful rooms & underutilized bars in Stratford & the food is spot-on. Don't confuse the upper level with the steady & famous lower level pizzeria, upstairs is a seasonal room with a focus on modern Italian cuisine using lots of local ingredients. The bar is arguably the best situated in Stratford with gorgeous evening views of City Hall, the Court House & the usual street-side shenanigans. Check out the 3-course lunch for $20.08, great wine cellar, Patio open all afternoon & evening. Pazzo Ristorante
ˇ Blyth Theatre is about 45 minutes from Stratford & for 33 years has been premiering & staging original often rural Canadian plays {who can forget Randy Hughson as Stompin' Tom!} that always suck you in & touch a nerve. The plays are 'real', the Theatre is 'real' & the Hotel across the road has several good bottles of Peele Island wine. I've already been told that this year's opener 'Against The Grain' might bring a tear to your eye. On August 2nd Music is sponsoring the first Alice Munro short story to hit the boards. It's called 'Courting Johanna', check the link for tickets & if you are there that night we'll buy you a glass of wine. Blyth Theatre
