| Greetings! |
Best line at Winterfest this past weekend from a star-struck little girl mesmerized by the beautiful giant ice sculptures of the CN Tower, Eiffel Tower, The Leaning Tower, Big Ben & others: "I feel like I'm walking all over the world".
From all over the world & increasingly from Canada exciting new products arrive weekly at Music & in this & upcoming issues of Music News we'll bring you up to date on lots of these technologies. The advances in TVs have been so rapid & startling that a shake of the head is required as we realize that our old-style TVs are looking more & more like 8-tracks. If you haven't bought a TV for several years you're in for a big surprise.
And, as always, the lowdown on a few Canadian CDs that are getting played at our home & on our iPods & in our vehicles & at the store. Hope you enjoy....
Cheers
 Neil & Judy

| Oh Oh... TV Has Gone & Changed On Us.. |
Still watching your tube? Hate to break it to you but while you were{n't} watching the game changed.
High Definition {HDTV} is what's in, what's on. Watch a movie or big game in HD once & you'll never go back. The proliferation of HD prorgrams & channels & the stunning quantum leap in picture quality, even in the last 24 months, will leave your jaw dropped. Slim flat-panel Plasma & LCD HDTVs are the norm & always on display at Music, in fact, you'll be hard pressed any more to find an old-fashioned non-HD tube TV {try the grocery store?}
At Music we can walk you through the transition, explain what you need, how to get the best out of it & make sure you can run it all easily. Hey, it's all about fun!
Want HD hung on your wall? Want a mount that tilts or swivels? Want it all hooked up correctly & professionally? Want your table full of remotes all sorted out {or removed completely}? Want simple written instructions for Granny or the babysitter or Uncle Albert? We do all that & more at Music where, on February 29th we will enter our 36th year of offering carefully chosen Audio & Video goods & straight ahead advice on what works best for you & your home. |

Canadian CDs You Might Like {we do}
|
ˇ Treasa Levasseur ~ Not A Straight Line
Here's Joni Mitchell, Etta James, Carole King and Dusty Springfield rolled into one. Treasa's CD dishes out broken heart blues, old-school soul, funk, folk and even raunchy rock. Her traffic stopping soulful voice & hopping hot stage presence will be on offer at Greenbelt Farm this summer. $19.95
ˇ Thom Swift ~ Into The Dirt
A bit Leon Russell {ouch that's a while ago}, a bit Tom Waits, a manly, sometimes gravelly voice & songs that are often, well, 'funkay'. Long time member of the N.B. blues group Hot Toddy, Thom's first solo project won him the Maple Blues 'New Artist of the Year' Award just last week. A lovely, acoustic, kind of bluesy project that hits all the right notes. Great voice, songwriting & arrangements. Highly recommended. $19.95
ˇ Hayley Sales ~ Sunseed
Here's a hot new young West coast artist. Norah Jones meets Jack Johnson and they had a sweet-voiced offspring who writes catchy tunes that sound like sunshine. Perfect antidote to the bitter cold of winter, you won't want to sit still as you listen to this. $19.95
ˇ Robert Scott ~ Pianoptic An impressive live-off-the-floor recording from an emerging hot pianist. Robert recorded this on a 9.5' $265,000 Bosendorfer with 97 keys, (that's 9 more than most pianos), and used every single one. A selection of impressive covers {Beatles' 'Blackbird', Radiohead, Dave Brubeck & Leonard's 'Hallelujah'} and several original tunes that are getting tons of play on CBC & Jazz Radio. Produced by Jaymz Bee. $19.95
ˇ Jimmy Rankin ~ Edge Of Day
Thirteen strong story songs from the former linchpin writer of the Rankin Family include licks of alternate country, adult-contemporary & rock. Production by Colin Linden gives it a 'live' recording feel. Guests include Tom Wilson & Gordie Sampson. Just nominated for 4 ECMA awards these brilliant musical tales leave a lasting impression of reflective romance & restless realization. $19.95 |
What's Going On?
|
 The Meat Store & Deli: opened Saturday on Wellington St. in the former Stratford Packers location. Butcher Rick of Cressman's & Baker Luke of Breadworks {where's the Candlestick maker?} have formed a working relationship that should be a bonus for the downtown. Maple Blues Awards: On January 21st named Colin James 'Entertainer Of The Year' & along with his Little Big Band the 'Electric Act Of The Year' & 'Recording Of The Year' for 'Little Big Band 3' while two of our favourites Dawn Tyler Watson & Jack de Keyser garnered 'Female Vocalist Of The Year' & 'Guitarist of The Year'.
Sapori Restaurant: has added to the restaurant & bar area of Stratford just past the Avon Theatre. Sapori have moved into the former Carter's on Downie location joining the wonderful Pearl Sushi, excellent Raja Indian Restaurant & the brilliantly run Foster's Inn. Sapori will host an Open House for Valentine's, Thursday Feb. 14th from 2 to 4. Sapori Pasta House
Garnet Rogers: plays City Hall Saturday Feb. 23rd as part 3 of the 'Live At City Hall' Rotary series. Tickets available at Tango Café & Grill. Tango
Stratford Garden Festival: A wonderfully popular 4 day hit of spring & summer from February 28 to Mar 2 while it's freezing or 'dreak' outside. Guest speakers, acres of displays & markets & so much inspiration it's hard not to go home & get digging in the dirt. Theme this year is 'Down To Earth' & I do believe Music will be showing some very cool outdoor speakers. Rotary Complex {sounds like something complicated that spins around} & all to support The Lung Association. Stratford Garden Festival
Michael Pickett & David Rotundo: To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lee Oskar Harmonicas, Lee Oskar will be touring and leading a band of national and international players in Ontario and Quebec. With touring artists Michael Pickett, David Rotundo {Maple Blues 'Harmonica Player Of The Year'} and European based guitarist Enrico Crivellaro. Saturday April 12th at the Festival Inn, Stratford @ 9PM
Treasa Lavasseur: will be the Drummond family's headliner this summer in the Garden Shed at Greenbelt Farms on Saturday July 19th. We'll have tickets at Music & suggest you mark this on your calendar now.
