Ready to "Fall for Art" Again?
Artists from all over the nation are hoping you are...
Artists from 19 states, including both coasts and a great selection from our own region are eager to show you their latest work. They'll be in the west parking lot at SouthPointe Pavilions this September 22nd and 23rd. Show hours are the same as last year, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM. We're into our second decade with new food vendors, great music, and an expanded Patron Sponsor program. We've got a great mix of disciplines and price points - you WILL find a lot of things you like.
The Huskers will be at the stadium playing Idaho State on Saturday so if you are one of the many that use the SouthPointe shuttle to the stadium, consider starting your day with the festival. We'll be glad to hold your art for you until after you return from the game. Some past favorites will be there, including Wendell Turner with his lovely, life-size palm trees and Jonathon Stopper with jewelry to die for. And some new friends, like our emerging artist this year, Tyler Voorhees with his strange and wonderful mixed-media collages. Karen Heuton is back, with her vivid, large-scale landscapes and so is Kevin Slaby with photographs so textured and deep you could fall into them. Come enjoy the festival, just because it really is a festival, but stay for the artists and savor their new works.

The Best Deal at the Festival!

For several years now we have been building our Patron Sponsor Program because everyone who comes in contact with it loves it. Lets say you're someone who loves arts festivals in general and, quite likely, ours specifically and you think that it's likely you'll spend $100 or more. Have we got a deal for you.
Pay us $125, and get in return $100 in "Art Money" to spend at the festival, and the knowledge that $25 goes to support the Lincoln Arts Council. That in itself is a good deal, but only the beginning. At 9:30 AM on Saturday morning we'll serve you a breakfast catered by Panera, woo you with live music from Chris Gates, and offer you a chance to meet and mingle with many of your friends and fellow art lovers. For more fun, a raffle will distribute donated art from this year's artists. All this is for Patron Sponsors only. Did we mention that the Mayor and a number of luminaries in the Lincoln art scene have been Patron Sponsors for years?

Well, not for some. But there is a performance side to the festival. We feel that music has a great deal to do with the experience you have at the Lincoln Arts Festival, so we spend a good deal of time finding local musicians to fill the air with music. Who wants to walk around without a rhythm track? And who wouldn't like their life to be underscored? And since you're having such a good time at the festival, shouldn't it be great music with a few smiles thrown in? We think so. We've arranged for Barger & Pipher, the Toasted Ponies, and the Fab-Tones to perform for us on Saturday and for two shows from the Southpaw Bluegrass Band on Sunday. They'll once again be playing in the "Noah Scape Entertainment Pavilion." So after you've done a couple of aisles and made some purchases that are getting a little too heavy to carry, mosey on over, grab a beverage and sit in the shade tapping your foot. We can promise a good time.

Children's Arts Activities
Thinking about the arts festival for yourself?
Think about it for the little ones as well. We're great fans of kids at the arts festival, in fact, we think the kid that's left behind is the one who hasn't found their creativity in arts activities. That's why every festival has artistic activities for kids (of all ages) to help them find their inner artist, and walk away with their own handmade treasure. Last year we made dreamcatchers, played with watercolors, made artistic buttons to wear and had a wonderful time. And danced with Jim King! The wonderful Jim King will join us again this year, and we've already had discussions about making buttons again because it was so popular. Spin painting and several other new activities are being planned and we can promise that the Children's Activities Tent will once again be the center of attention for many smiling new artists. Check it out when you get here.

Thanks to the 2012 Lincoln Arts Festival Sponsors!
Thank you to these wonderful companies that said "YES !", when asked if they would help us make the 12th annual Lincoln Arts Festival possible:
So the next time you are driving past one of these fine Lincoln companies, remember that they have publicly supported the 'heartbeat' of our city which is art. And if given a chance...please say thank you!

Fourth of July Signs Featured at Lux and Sheldon First Friday Art Walk
CHAMBER DONATES SEASONAL SIGNS TO THE ARTS
Each year the Lincoln Arts Council awards grant funding to member arts organizations to assist with their community outreach projects. In 2012 the Lincoln Arts Council helped to fund Angels Theatre Company's Angels and Caregivers, including the production of two plays; Lincoln Municipal Band's seven free outdoor concerts in Antelope Park; Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra's Young People's Concerts, which give more than 4,000 4th grade students the opportunity to see and hear an orchestra; and Sheldon Art Association's Art in Society, an education program for high school students teaching critical thinking and art-making skills. For more information about projects funded visit: http://www.artscene.org/2012- project-grants-announced
The Lux Center for the Arts and Sheldon Museum of Art will showcase the Fourth of July Seasonal Signage at the September First Friday Art Walk event. Guests attending will have the opportunity to bid on the signs in a silent auction to raise funds for the Lincoln Arts Council's project grants. Both galleries will be open from 5-8 p.m.
The Fourth of July Seasonal Signs were displayed last month in downtown Lincoln as a part of the new Lincoln branding campaign. The original messaging and bright graphics caught the attention of many locally and nationally. The signs generated over 13.5 million views on Reddit and nearly 400 "likes" on the Lincoln, NE Facebook page. Thanks to the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce for donating the signs to the Lincoln Arts Council to benefit the arts community.

We all need to express ourselves- to celebrate beauty, show a problem, heal ourselves, comment on life, share a folly. Making art is one of the better ways to do this. Molly Magnuson made this discovery a long time ago, and art has become central to her young life. Fortunately for the rest of us, she works both sides of the fence, making her own art through painting and sculpture, and guiding, encouraging and enabling others to find their own path. In addition to her studio work, residencies and workshops, and working at the Lincoln Arts Council, she has run the National Arts Program (NAP) for two years.
