Economic Impact Study Released
Did you know...
- The Arts generate over 53 million dollars in economic activity in Lincoln every year.
- There are over 15 hundred full-time jobs in the Arts in Lincoln.
- The city and state share nearly five million dollars in tax revenue from the Arts.
- Twenty one percent of our Arts audiences come from out-of-town.
- Our out-of-town guests spend an average of thirty two dollars each Arts event and that doesn't even include the cost of the ticket.
- An average of fifteen dollars is spent by every person at Lincoln Arts events over and above the cost of admission.
So why do we capitalize the word "Arts"? Because they're a Big Deal, that's why.
Publication after publication lists Lincoln as "...a family friendly place to live," or "...best for singles," or "...one of the top five places to retire," and so on. Lincoln makes so many lists because it is stable, has low unemployment, and has a rich cultural life worthy of cities much larger. The Arts are a major contributor to that cultural life, and now you know, a major economic engine as well. The Lincoln Arts Council partnered once again with the Americans For The Arts in a national Arts economic impact study, gathering data in 2011. The results for Lincoln are up 14% from a similar study in 2005 and we're delighted to share the good news. We all know that Lincoln is a great place to live, and that the Arts are a big part our quality of life. We should also remember that the Arts contribute their full share to our economic prosperity as well. For more information, go to ArtScene.org and download the full study results.

Lincoln Celebrates the Arts!
What a delightful evening! The Mayor's Arts Awards were held Monday the 18 of June on the Lied Center main stage and about 350 artists and art lovers celebrated this year's winners. Mayor Beutler began his remarks by announcing the results of the Arts Councils latest Arts Economic Impact Study. Read the results elsewhere in this newsletter. Green Room Media and Diane Gonzolas did a terrific job with the video interviews and our take on the latest arts technology, the "LETA" app; not likely to hit your smartphone anytime soon, but lots of laughs at the banquet. David Bagby was our raffle winner and went home with a brand new iPad 3.
Fun evening aside, we know that Mayor's Arts Award winners have earned their awards through a combination of talent and dedication to the arts. We want to congratulate them and thank them for making the arts in Lincoln an extraordinary rich contribution to our community. One can't leave the Mayor's Arts Awards without a great deal of pride in Lincoln and the arts community in particular.

The Arts Festival is coming! The Arts Festival is coming!
The results are in, the jury has spoken, and once again we have a terrific lineup of artists for this years festival. As usual, we will be posting invited artist's profiles on our website, ArtScene.org later this month, where you can see samples of their work and find out a little about them. Maybe a little early shopping? Or maybe you need a little help with your Patron Sponsor decision. Check out the artists and their work for a fine preview of the festival.
On another note, artists who have been juried into the Lincoln Arts Festival (you know who you are) should take care of accepting and booth fees by July 9th. We have taken fees late before, but if you have been with us in the past and like your booth location, take care of business before the deadline. We lay out the festival and assign booth numbers on the basis of confirmed/paid artists and we'd hate to see you lose a prime spot because of an oversight. Thanks!

GTLD
Don't recognize those letters???

GTLD means Give To Lincoln Day. Ring a bell now?...that was May 17th when 1.33 million dollars was donated via the Lincoln Community Foundation. Everyone was quite surprised at the generosity of our community. The recipients were all thrilled to have their 'boats raised' and after speaking to some of the donors, we heard that this event made it so very easy for people to give. Let's face it - more and more of us are comfortable with making purchases online, so giving to our favorite organizations online made it very very easy.
The Lincoln Arts Council raised over $ 1,500 in that short 24 hour period, ranking us 17th from the top of the over 160 non-profit organizations that registered to participate in the event. Now that everyone is more familiar with how GTLD works...we're anticipating even more participation next year.
So - thank you to everyone who Gave To Lincoln Day!

Nebraska Repertory Theatre!
Your annual guilty pleasure is fast approaching!
NRT is doing three very different takes on comedy this year. Opening July 6th is Jeeves Intervenes, a new adaptation of one of the beloved Bertie Wooster stories of P.G. Woodhouse. See how impossibly clever one man can be in the face of fools, many fools. Opening July 12th is Heros, a sweet reminder that there's no expiration date on a hero, but there's no way to herd cats either. That will make sense on July 13th. Opening July 18th is God of Carnage. How very, very civilized we are with our modern manners, tools and ideas. Yeah, sure...
