We live in a city with a rich and vibrant art scene. Everyone who reads our newsletter knows artists who make art, buyers who collect it, and sustainers who keep the arts visible. Now it's time to call out the best and recognize them for their contributions.

We are accepting nominations through January 13 for the 2012 Mayor's Arts Awards, with a banquet and awards ceremony to be held next June at the Lied Center. Instructions, award details, and a list of past recipients are available for easy download  here, or call (402) 434-2787 and have us send you one. Help us find the best of the best for 2012.

Chez Hay gave the city of Lincoln another successful handmade holiday event this year. On November 9, Chez Hay hosted the fourth-annual Craftacular event. It was an evening full of fun for more than 500 people in attendance. More than thirty local artists were on hand to sell their handmade gift items to shoppers eager to get a start on their holiday shopping. In addition to one-of-a-kind wares, attendees were treated to music from UNL School of Music violin duo Meredith Ramsay and Hannah Orr, and a visit from Santa!  More...

December Art Events

This holiday season, there's no better way relax with family and friends then to enjoy some local art events together.  Here's some suggestions from our calendar: First Friday this December is on the 2nd.  While you're out, be sure to check out the Slave Free Nebraska Bench Art Project along the 12th and P streets Art Corridor, which will be unveiled at 2:30pm.  The Bench Art Project was created by advertising students from the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications who developed a brand named "Slave Free Nebraska," with the goal of creating an awareness campaign centered on educating the community about human trafficking in Nebraska and the United States.  The benches were designed by Lincoln artists Sara Leimbach, Lindsey Weber, Ann Williams, Deb Bridges, and Amber Konz.

For even more on what's happening on First Friday, check out our December First Friday guide.

Other organizations with events this December:
Don't see your art organization's event here?  That's because we need a profile created on our website, ArtScene.org.  Fill out a bio, add events to our calendar by the 25th, and get your contributions to Lincoln's art scene noticed!
