Artist Residencies Conclude
The Lincoln Arts Council's 2011 Artist Residency program funded by the Nebraska Arts Council concluded at the end of May with astounding success. Fiber artist Katie Frisch worked with 3rd and 4th grade students at Riley Elementary for 3 weeks this spring creating a nuno-felted "forest" that will be permanently installed in the Riley Media Center. Before they are installed they will make an appearance at the Mayor's Arts Awards, so be sure to look for them at the event! Dance Teaching artist Sarah Brown spent 5 weeks at Huntington Elementary this spring working with 5th grade students. She taught students the elements of movement and choreography and integrated dance into their study of rhythm in Music class, phases of water in Science class, and poetry in Writing class. The residency ended with the students collaboratively creating their own dances in Music class. Thank you to the Nebraska Arts Council for funding this project, and to Frank and Elizabeth Hilsabeck for their support of the Huntington residency.
