A New Year's Wish....

Happy New Year!"The life and essence of art-whether it is painting, music or dance-lies in expressing a wellspring of emotion, the universal realm of the human spirit.  It is the melding of the individual and the universal.  That is why great art reaches out beyond ethnic and national barriers to move people the world over."  D. Ikeda - International Committee of Artists for Peace.

For 42 years the Lincoln Arts Council has prided itself on promoting the arts, advocating for the arts, facilitating public art and much more.  We have expanded our services through the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporate support.

We sincerely appreciate your collective efforts to ensure the health and well being of our wonderful city and arts community.  The Lincoln Arts Council staff and board wish you all a healthy, prosperous 2011.  We trust that the arts will remain an undeniable joy in your lives and you will continue to support them in whatever manner you can.

Artist Spotlight - Virginia Smith

Virginia Smith
Virginia Smith sums up everything she does into four categories: Acting, Directing, Writing, and Teaching. This succinct summation is impressive considering Smith's wide range of roles. She is the Artistic Director of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre (NRT), an Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she teaches acting and directing, heads the MFA program in Directing for Stage and Screen and the BA undergraduate emphasis in Directing and Management. She is the faculty advisor for Theatrix, the student theatre group on campus, and continues to direct theatre nationally with her most recent work, "Local Wonders", currently being produced in Chicago.  More...

 January Art Events

Happy New Year everyone!  I don't know about you, but I'm making one of my resolutions this year to go out and take in more art.  Here to aid in that endeavor, this month, The Ross is showing "Met Opera Live in HD: La Fanciulla del West."  The Youth Actors' Academy of Lincoln presents "Into the Woods, Jr."  And the St. David's Welsh Society is hosting their 3rd Annual 12th Night Revel.  What better way is there to take in some visual arts than to hit the streets for the First Friday Gallery Happenings on January 7th?  Be sure to prepare and check out our guide first.
