It's a Family Thing
Don't forget, the last day for Mayor's Arts Awards reservations is June 2nd!
ARTSblog by Doug Smith - For many years I had a job
that routinely placed me in new situations, among strangers, usually
with a unique set of problems to solve, and a great deal of pressure and
stress. I loved it, because it required a willingness to abandon
routine and search for creative solutions that were time, location and
people specific. Art in a pressure cooker? I'll leave that for others to
judge, but as you might imagine, I value flexibility, curiosity and
novelty more than most things. Art is a big deal to me because it flexes
just those muscles as it asks me to play along, get the joke, take the
ride, find the answer. The payoff is that I will get to see the world
anew, and in a slightly different way. How cool is that! More... |

Thanks for Celebrating With Us!
Congratulations to Breanna Benjamin, winner of two tickets to the
Mayor's Arts Awards, which will be held on June 7 at the Lied Center for
the Performing Arts! Breanna won the drawing held at our ArtScene.org
launch party on May 7. Despite the blustery winds, the party in the park to celebrate the
launch of the new ArtScene.org was a huge success. Visitors enjoyed art
on display from artists Nolan Tredway, Dave Christiansen, Jen
Lucas-Landis, Carol DeVall, and Jerry Hall. We had great music from Sean
Murphy, Andrew Janak, and Jon Seevers, and our very own Graham Little
gave live demonstrations of the new features of ArtScene.org. More... |
