Artistic Rain Barrel's Now On Display

Jim Mehsling's "Inspired by Wind in the Willows" Rain BarrelThe Artistic Rain Barrel program is a collaboration between the City of Lincoln Watershed Management Division and the Friends of Pioneers Park Nature Center. In an exciting opportunity to get the word out about simple things homeowners can do to conserve water and reduce stormwater runoff, 25 local artists have been selected to paint rain barrels. A rain barrel is typically a 55 gallon barrel, modified to received rainwater runoff from rooftop downspouts - the collected water can be used for lawn and gardens.
These Artistic Barrels will be on display at local businesses and libraries from March 6, 2009 to April 10, 2009. They will be auctioned off at Pioneers Park Nature's Market event on April 18, 2009. The proceeds from the auction will provide low income children with scholarships to Nature Camp and Pre-School at the Pioneers Park Nature Center.
