Happy New Year!
Hello friend, As the year 2009 begins, some are considering making resolutions. Perhaps yours is to relax more, to laugh more. To learn something new. At the Lincoln Arts Council our intention for 2009 is to have an exceptional year for the arts in our community. Our hope is for peace, and time to connect with friends and family, and we believe that the arts provide an excellent opportunity for both to happen. The arts are about self expression, using a common language that is good for humankind. So, in 2009 why not consider taking an art class, enjoying a play or film, learning a new musical instrument, or learning how to dance? Wishing you a year of art opportunities and prosperity, from the Lincoln Arts Council Board of Directors and Staff. |

Multicultural Arts Initiative
Lincoln's large population of immigrant/refugees allows our community to learn another's language, foods, traditions, and beliefs. Art is an integral component to any culture and can provide a new insight to how people live and express themselves. That is why the Lincoln Arts Council is starting their 'Multicultural Arts Initiative' project that will primarily focus on preserving, cataloging, and educating the public about our rich cultural artistic traditions. Multicultural artists will be able to showcase their work in the community by having an artist profile online that includes a short biography and a picture. This is a great way for the community to learn about the many unique art forms in other countries. If you are an artist or if you know of someone who would be interested in being involved with this project, please contact the Lincoln Arts Council at 402-434-2787, or email info@artscene.org.

Modern Arts Midwest - "Intimate Surface"
For the month of January, Modern Arts Midwest is pleased to show "Intimate Surface" featuring porcelain work by Amy Smith and watercolor paintings by Charles Novich. Amy Smith says "I love how Charles makes watercolor look effortless, his ease with the material and his treatment of skin is masterful. In the same way, people respond to my work with words such as elegant and serene. It reminds them of sand they say, and water. Our work as one produces a subtle, poignant and ever-changing show: "Intimate Surface." Also on exhibit is work by Kate Brooke, Nancy Childs, Larry Roots, Teresa Schmidt, and the Lincoln Arts Council's board president Joe Ruffo. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Friday, January 2nd, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Haydon Art Center - "Introspection"
