Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying your summer activities.  The month of August is always one of both reflection and planning ahead for the members of your  Lincoln Arts Council Board of Directors. Board meetings have been very well attended, and the conversations about the present and future of the LAC have been lively and inspiring.  In addition to their regular duties, LAC Board members have been busy working on several new projects over the past twelve months.  These include the development and implementation of a formal process for inviting new members to the Board, a program for Board member development that is already up and running, and a first draft of a plan for the Arts Council's long term financial sustainability.  Of course, I cannot speak about the work of the Board without also celebrating the outstanding work that Deb Weber and the members of the LAC staff have been doing during the past year, and in particular, their creative efforts to reshape the Mayor's Arts Awards celebration which was so successful in its new format this year. Indeed, the LAC is moving forward!  More...

"Margins" ExhibitMcClelland Gallery
During a lecture, presentation or meeting, hands often have a mind of their own. Surrealist artists called the shapes that fill notebooks and scrap paper "automatic drawing." Most people just call them "doodles." From July 24 to Aug. 17, 2008, the McClelland Art Gallery at Union College will host "Margins," an exhibition of art created while the mind is otherwise occupied.
Comprised of submissions from Union College employees and students, the exhibit features art created on whatever medium was available at the time. The pieces both honor and transcend their origins, such as "While Watching Seinfeld," a mixture of geometric and organic shapes surrounding a Sudoku puzzle by Angie Peach, director of major gift development in Union's Advancement Office.
