Dear Friends,

A most important part of supporting the arts in any community is that of celebrating both the work that artists and artist-teachers do and recognizing and paying tribute to all those individuals and organizations whose leadership, generosity and hard work make it possible for the arts to thrive.  Such celebrations are essential, for in addition to focusing a spotlight of praise and thanks on the artists and arts supporters, celebratory activities also serve to make the larger community aware of the contributions that the arts make to the overall quality of life in a city such as ours.

To be sure, the network of artists and arts supporters working together in Lincoln is an extensive and exciting one that is worth celebrating regularly, both in terms of what has been accomplished over the years and what will be possible as we look ahead.  This year offers us all a unique opportunity to do this is a memorable way, as 2008 marks both the 40th anniversary of the Lincoln Arts Council and the 30th anniversary of one of Lincoln's most prestigious arts events, the Mayor's Arts Awards.  More...

The Nebraska DispatchesThe Nebraska Dispatches
Club Carson presents The Nebraska Dispatches by Christopher Cartmill this Friday, May 9 at 7:30pm.  A former Lincoln resident, Cartmill has gone on to acclaim as a playwright living in New York City. Commissioned to write a play about the trial of Chief Standing Bear, the writer naively steps into the contemporary Native American world and the place he once called home. A personal, political, and spiritual journey filled with humor, unlikely connections, almost Dickensian characters, a very small car, and profound revelations about home and the power and responsibility of stories and the storyteller. "The Nebraska Dispatches" was conceived as a changing work - a solo performance of experiences that have changed the playwright. More...
