A Letter from the President
Jack Oliva color photo
Dear friends,

Happy New Year all! The start of a new year always brings with it a strong sense of renewal, as well as that special excitement that goes hand in hand with plans to explore something new.  In this regard, we ring in the new year with this inaugural issue of our eNewsletter in place of the bimonthly issues of ArtScene that we all have been used to for so long.  As you will see in the coming months, this new communication format will afford us a much more flexible and economical way in which to stay in touch with all of you about arts events and activities, as well as about the ongoing work of the Board and special issues of interest to the arts community that might arise throughout the year.  There will also be opportunities for you to give us your feedback on a wide range of topics, to include ways in which the Arts Council can better serve the arts in Lincoln. So be sure to watch for short surveys that will be made available to you from time to time.

Our Board will be busy this year as well, as it focuses on the development of a long range plan that will set out some ambitious goals for keeping the Arts Council strong financially as it moves forward.    Along these lines, fund raising and development will be a priority for the Arts Council this year, and working with us in this regard will be our new Development Director Melissa Epp, who has just joined our staff.

Of course, I cannot talk about 2008 without reminding everyone that this year will mark the Lincoln Arts Council's 40th anniversary. It is our hope that you will all be able to participate in some way with us as we celebrate this important milestone during the coming year.

Thanks so much for supporting the Lincoln Arts Council, and for all that you do for the arts in our fair city!

Cordially,
Jack Oliva
