Boaters frequently ask me about the ability to bookmark individual buoys on the Chesapeake Bay. I

recently learned about two new ways that NOAA has made it convenient to obtain more information from the buoy network.Read more here.....NOAA BUOY APPSRaymarine Logo

Brad's Briefs

I would like to thank John Deutsch for commenting on my "in mast furling" articles and sending me pictures of a solution for an "issue" that has happened to some in-mast-furling sailors.  This relates to in-mast boats that have a long distance along the luff (usually larger boats) from where the   bolt rope (the little line sewn into the mainsail that feeds into the furling slot) ends, and the tack of the sail.

Apparently with a couple of feet of sail (on the luff, near the tack of the main) without a bolt rope, there can be a bulge in the sail that inhibits the first turn of the main while trying to furl.  (see pics).   Here is what John said:  Tips for July 2011

Hunter Marine Introduces New e33 for 2012

New Hunter e33 for 2012

The boat is currently in St. Augustine being tested by Steve Pettengill. He sailed it this past week and was very pleased with how she sailed and moved under power. Steve is also testing with Hunter engineers in various degrees of weather, including the toughest of conditions. We asked Hunter for interior shots but will have to wait until the cushions are made and the interior is photo ready. When we are able to announce the price, you'll be the first to know!  Rumor has it that this is going to be one amazing boat. Annapolis Boat Show....here we come!

Norton's ASA Sailing School Celebrates 16th Year!

ASA Student @ Helm w/Capt. Crump The ASA sailing curriculum is the oldest, and in our opinion, the best sailing instruction available. Norton's Sailing School is the only ASA Certified Affiliate School in Deltaville.  Our instructors are seasoned, certified instructors that hold Caption's licenses. Our instruction ranges from basic ASA 101 up to advanced ASA 106. Currently, Norton's Sailing School has 4 instructors and the school boat is Norton's 2009 Hunter 31. In the photograph, Capt. Bill Crump congratulates a new graduate of Norton's ASA Sailing School.ASA Norton Sailing School logo
