March is a month to celebrate at GSCSNJ. During the first week we will hold our first Annual Meeting on March 5! Girl Scout week is March 9-15 and we will host two Women of Distinction events honoring 8 remarkable women who are exceptional role models for our girls. GIRL LEADERSHIP IN ACTION CELEBRATED DURING
GIRL
SCOUT WEEK
Join Girl Scout troops
around the country to make the world a better place as we celebrate Girl Scout
Week from March 9-15!
Helping
girls discover themselves and how they can impact their communities was
something that Juliette Gordon Low, Girls Scouts' founder, first
envisioned. At the time of the
organization's founding, when many girls' paths in life were limited to their
social standing, Low's vision was to establish an organization where any
American girl could expand her personal horizon by having fun, while exploring
new interests and contributing to society. Low was determined to help expand
opportunities and learning for the average American girl. Girl
Scout Week projects are part of a broader initiative by Girl Scouting to help
girls lead by example in their communities and in the larger world around them.
With leadership development at the organization's core, today's Girl Scouts
enjoy vast adventures in self-discovery with activities like extreme sports,
international travel, business and economic literacy, science & technology,
and mentorships with caring adults.
In 2006 the Girl Scout Movement adopted a new
mission: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who
make the world a better place. In 2007, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) began
the process of realigning its 312 councils into 109 high-performance councils.
In the fall of 2008, GSUSA will begin to phase in the new Girl Scout Leadership
Experience for Girl Scouts and volunteers. Each step forward by our Movement is
done with one thing in mind, building
tomorrow's leaders.
To fulfill the mission and our commitment to girls,
the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ (GSCSNJ) along with GSUSA are
renewing the Girl Scout experience by making it compelling, relevant and
impact-driven for 21st-century girls. In response to the needs of
girls across our region, we are pleased to introduce a new and exciting
approach to leadership based on journeys that will help girls discover, connect
and take action so they can make the world a better place.
As we join the national effort to create the number
one leadership program for girls in the USA and in central and southern NJ,
we will continue to honor the traditions that have always made Girl Scouting
such a positive experience. Change is a deeply rooted tradition in Girl
Scouting. Our Movement has always made the effort to adapt to the needs and
concerns of the next generation of Girl Scouts while continuing to maintain the
values that have been our core for 96 years. Our founder, Juliette Gordon Low
once said, "The work of today is the history of tomorrow, and we are its
makers." At GSCSNJ we are makers of the next generation of female leaders in New Jersey. |
