February is the month we celebrate World Thinking Day. Girl Scouts and Girl Guides unite in celebration of different cultures and think of each other across the world on February 22. What a great time for girls to explore and become aware of different issues facing their sister Girl Scouts all over the world. The theme for World Thinking Day 2008 is water. Read more about World Thinking Day and all of the other fun stuff going on at GSCSNJ in this issue of Connect.

Stepping out in faith - a Gold Award
Written by GSCSNJ Communications Intern
Analis Barrood, a senior at South Brunswick High School received her Gold Award in September. Outside of Girl Scouts, Analis is involved in numerous activities including the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Pirandello Players Theatre Group, and Outstanding Students of America. She is heavily involved with her church, especially in areas dealing with children.
It is not a big surprise that Analis had decided to center her Gold Award project on the children of her parish.
"I knew immediately that I wanted to do something that involved children, and when I spoke to the Director of Religious Education at my church, she helped me to come up with my project. We decided on a summer camp so that students could continue to learn about God over the summer," she explained.
The Bible School was held at St. Paul's Church and included children from kindergarten through fourth grade. Participants were able to take part in singing, story time, and arts & crafts. Snack time was also provided for the children.
Analis earned her thirty hours of leadership through overseeing all of the activities that the children participated in. She also photographed each event and created a slideshow for the parents at the end of the day.
Looking back at her years with Girl Scouts, Analis feels that it has given her "...opportunities to meet girls [her] age with shared interests who push [her] to make the world a better place which is what Girl Scouting is all about."
