Dear Girl Scout Friend,
It was only two short months ago that we became ONE, but look at how strong we have grown. We have become so much in a few short weeks, thanks to the support of you, the dedicated volunteers for GSCSNJ. Just look at all we have accomplished: - A website that answers to the needs of our new Council
- Three online newsletters, Discover, Connect and Take Action
- Numerous leadership opportunities for girls in 9+ counties in New Jersey
- A fantastic group of volunteers whose helping hands stretch past all boundaries
- Indoor and outdoor trainings offering the best strategies and techniques for each level
- An exciting Evening of Monopoly--GSCSNJ's first fundraiser
- We held an amazing Council Kickoff at Camp Inanwendiwin's Annual Fall Festival with hundreds in attendance
- New Green Apple Enrichment Workshops, geared towards enhancing the Girl Scout trainings for volunteers
- A successful QSP/Nut Program
- Several Gold and Silver workshops aimed at helping girls and leaders
- Cookie program workshops to assist in the preparation for our January sale
- And so much more...
If we can do all this in two months--8 weeks--imagine everything we will accomplish next year. Together we fulfill our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. From all of us here at GSCSNJ--from Middlesex to Cape May--we wish you and your family a safe Holiday and a Happy New Year. |

Girl Scouts "Run's House" Premier
|
Vanessa & Angela Simmons Become Girl Scouts On November 29 at 10:00PM (ET/PT) MTV viewers watched Vanessa and
Angela Simmons become the newest members of the Girl Scout family! On
this episode of "Run's House", cameras follow Vanessa and
Angela Simmons - daughters of Rev. Run (aka Joseph Simmons of Run-DMC)
as they meet with the Girl Scouts for the first time, discover the
opportunities available for giving back and encourage others to join
the organization.
Viewers will have the chance to follow Vanessa and Angela online through their official Girl Scouts page- www.girlscouts.org/vanessaandangela-
as they spread the word on Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy
Programs at Girl Scouts. The Simmons sisters, Rev Run and their mom
Justine, a Girl Scout alumna, have recorded a variety of television
Public Service Announcements (PSAs) & interviews for the cause.
"There
is a real lack of people encouraging young ladies to be leaders," says
Vanessa Simmons, on her new role at the Girl Scouts. "Promoting
entrepreneurship and financial literacy is important. Girls need to be
business-minded so we have more female leaders in the world." Adds
Angela Simmons, "And starting now is the best thing girls can do.
Selling cookies is a business and you develop those entrepreneurial
skills at a young age."
"It's hard to find positive
images for girls in the mainstream media," says Kathy Cloninger, CEO of
Girl Scouts of the USA. "That's why we are proud to partner with the
Simmons family. Vanessa and Angela Simmons have demonstrated what being
a positive role model is all about. We hope they will encourage other
young professionals to volunteer at the Girl Scouts- whether it's once
a month, on weekends, or whatever your schedule allows. Our girls need
role models and positive mentors like Vanessa and Angela in their
lives." |

We hope you enjoyed this issue of Discover- A Newsletter for Our Volunteers. The deadline for submission articles for Discover is the 20th of every month. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
Sincerely,
Natasha, Donna and Melissa
