|Salt and Light Log. . .|
We've been spending time with Jesus and the Sermon on the Mount these last few weeks. A couple of weeks ago I invited you to consider paying attention to and keeping track of all the wonderful and amazing ways that God is at work in our lives and in the world; taking note, affirming and celebrating the ways that we are salt and light to one another and to the community beyond the four walls of our sanctuary.
And so, this is the start of our Salt & Light Log. I invited you to email me your "Noticings" of salt and light around Forest Hill, in your family, your neighborhood, and out in the world and Sheryl Butler did, all the way from Iowa!
from Sheryl: "There is a woman's retreat next weekend which I really wanted Mary and I to go, but financially could not come up with the registration fee ($100 ea.). My prodigal daughter, Janet, called me and asked if I was still thinking about going to the retreat that she would pay my registration fee. I was able to gratefully accept her generous offer. Of course, the money was not the important thing, it was my daughter's generosity, my openness to receive her gift, allowing my daughter the joy of giving, my gratitude for the gift and Janet's gratitude for being able to help her mom. A lot of light is bouncing back and forth. Of course, light cannot be seen unless it is reflecting off of something."
I invite you to start paying attention to the ways that God is working in and through us to add zest, flavor, light and radiance and then give me a call or shoot me an email or tell me during Fellowship Time and I'll make sure they're placed on our log.
"Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings
out the God-flavors of this earth. . . Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill! If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand-shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." ~Matthew 5: 13-16 Blessings, Susan
In honor of Black History Month, My mother has donated to Forest Hill Christian Church a copy of her fast selling book entitled "More Than a Slave". It is the history of my Grand Father, Andrew Jackson Hurdle, who found his mother and father after the Civil War and went on to co-found Jarvis Christian College in Texas and also fathered 25 children! My mother is his youngest child.
Please contact the FHCC office if you would like to borrow it from our library. If you would like to purchase one you can contact me at 415-387-6792.
Thank you, Bonnie
