Feature article: How to fill out your spring wardrobe
Greetings!

The past few days have been glorious -- a much-needed break from the cold weather and, for me at least, a great motivation to starting thinking about spring!

I can't wait!

I have a feeling I'm going to approach the new season with a little bit more daring this year. Recently I was reminded that sometwoman looking at her closetimes you have to take a risk and try something different. It wasn't a big risk, but it made me think I ought to go out on a limb more often. Here I am in my hot-pink Tina Turner wig, which I wore for the Jewish holiday of Purim; I loved the bright color and its sheer audacity, and I want to see if I can bring those qualities into my life more often.

What do you want  more of in YOUR life?

The past couple months have been very busy, with some wonderful new clients and lots of training in image consulting. First of all, I'm midway through a fantastic class on closets and personal shopping, and I'm learning some great new skills I can't wait to share with you!

And I recently went to New York to train in color analysis. As part of the training, I even got my own colors "done" -- and it was a surprisingly exciting and liberating thing! Do YOU struggle with what colors suit you best and wish you could settle that dilemma for once and for all? You might like to know that I'm celebrating the excitement and power of color with a special offer for clients who'd like to dress in their most flattering colors, day in and day out; scroll down for details.

Finally, if you've been wanting to make big changes to your personal style but aren't quite ready for a one-on-one consultation, I'm planning a series of workshops just for you coming in April. It's going to be five separate classes with the option to take them all. (Scroll down for details.) I would love to see you at one or all of them.

In the meantime, why not see what risks you can take with your own personal style (and let me know how it feels!).

Warmly,

Ketura

'How does it all work?'
People are always asking me how I work when I have a client.

Of course, there's no one single answer, because it's all about the client and her needs.

In general, though, I'll tell you what I DON'T do: waltz into the client's closet, get rid of all her clothes, and tell her what she should and shouldn't wear.

Where would be the fun in that?

Instead, first we develop a road map to the client's personal style in an assessment that reviews her lifestyle, likes and dislikes, and what she feels she wants to change.

Women really love this approach, and here's why. First, it helps her understand where she wants to take her personal style -- more girly or more sophisticated; more polished or more fun -- whatever is right for her and help her feel her best every day.

The second reason is that it then gets a whole lot easier to justify finding a new home for the pieces that don't do her justice -- AND it becomes a whole lot easier to shop successfully for pieces that will earn their keep in her closet.

If this sounds like something you'd like, give me a call or shoot me an email and we'll find out how you can get the peace of mind and great personal style that come from this process.

How to fill out your spring wardrobe

Need a cheat-sheet you can use to guide your spring purchases? Here's what to look for:

illustration of shoppingDresses.
Dresses range from ultra-feminine to exotic, with optical, tribal, and bold prints and layers of ruffles. Try them belted at the waist or not -- whatever flatters you most. And you may also want to try the very user-friendly utilitarian khaki cotton dress.

Skirts. Try a modern pencil skirt in a fun print or soft pastel. These are great paired with a collared shirt or a ruffled blouse, tucked in, with a narrow belt to finish the look.

Jackets. Military-style jackets in khaki or olive green look fresh with rolled-up jeans or white denim straight-leg pants. Boyfriend jackets look fresh over super-feminine dresses and high wedges. Leather biker jackets add toughness to feminine ruffles and lace. Collarless jackets look great layered with longer blouses underneath. Cropped tailored jackets go over long Ts or tank-top dresses.

Shorts. Hot pants are in, but they may not be right for you. You may prefer other options -- longer, fuller shorts (though they can be hard to pull off) and cropped pants.

Pants. We're seeing pleated, tapered cropped trousers in natural colors as well as wild prints. Looser pants made headway on the runway, and the skinny look is fading. There are also leggings; just make sure to wear them properly; don't wear them as if they were pants.

Tops. Look for blouses in your favorite prints to pair with jeans or slacks, or let ruffles and bows cascade down the front of blouses and T-shirts in prints and solid colors. Tops in billowy sheer fabrics are best layered with T-shirts or underpinnings.

Find out what colors you should wear -- and which ones you'll probably want to avoid, at least most of the time -- by scheduling a color analysis session with me. We'll spend about an hour (it might be more or less than that) carefully analyzing your skin tones and undertones to determine which are best for you. You'll look healthier and more beautiful (and younger!) and you'll save LOTS of time and money when you shop.
