Greetings!

KP headshot
I hope you're surviving this crazy winter we're having!

With all the snow we've had, last month seems a long time ago. Just after the new year, a great group of women came together for a fun evening of talking about reinvention through personal style. It was so much fun -- and so inspiring! -- that I decided to schedule a repeat session to make sure more people got a chance to participate. Do you want to use your personal style to further your current goals? Scroll down for details.

If you've ever thought to yourself "THAT''s what I want to look like!" then the brand-new Wardrobe Workshop coming in March, "Champagne & Collages: Celebrating YOU in Images" is just for you (details and sign-up info below). I'd love to see you at one or both events!

Do you wonder what colors suit you best? Later this week I'll be going to New York to get certified in color analysis. To celebrate, I'll be offering a special limited-time discount on color services. Stay tuned!

Finally, as hard as it is to believe, spring is just around the corner, and now is the time to think about spring cleaning -- what's hiding in YOUR closet?! -- and spring shopping. I have a sneak peek for you below. Please let me know if you'd like my help.

Warmly,

Ketura

Reinventing YOU: A Wardrobe Workshop

Last month's Wardrobe Workshop was lots of fun for the women who came.

But it was more than that.

It was inspiring; one woman even confessed she was moved to tears. Another went home and immediately implemented some of the changes she'd learned. Here's what she said:

I have been a purging QUEEN! It has felt wonderful; funny how clearing out all the stuff that brought me down has elevated my mood! ... I  thank you every time I look at my re-imaged closet.
You've given me quite a gift....

Wouldn't you LOVE to get that feeling -- that lighter and freer feeling you get when you look in your closet and ... it looks like YOU?!

You'll start down the road to feeling this way during this workshop, "Reinventing You." We'll talk about finding the right time to make changes -- BIG changes -- and how you can tackle them in step by step, so they're manageable, never confusing or overwhelming. You'll learn how to transform your personal style so you're ready for whatever the future holds for you.

You'll have plenty of time to ask questions and give and get helpful advice. (Plus, of course, yummy refreshments.) And you'll walk away with a new understanding of how to identify the new look that will support your personal and professional goals.

If you'd like to make changes in your personal style -- BIG changes -- without a lot of fuss, you won't want to miss this workshop, Tues., March 9, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at a private home in northwest DC. Please email me with questions or to RSVP. ( Feel free to bring a friend, I just need to know about it in advance.)

Champagne & collages: An image workshop

KP collageOne of the most powerful ways to figure out how you'd like to look is to create a collage of images that really appeal to you. (Here's one I created recently, around the beginning of the year.)

Welcome to "Champagne and Collages," a Sunday morning Wardrobe Workshop.
During this workshop, we'll use images to create an artwork -- a collage, or "vision board." We'll talk about the finished work, and about important new tools for fine-tuning your personal style.

Want to create a picture of your own style?
Email me to reserve your place; space is limited
. And start collecting images now -- any image from any source that really speaks to you.

Details:
Sunday, Feb. 7, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at a private home in northwest DC; you'll get all the relevant info when you RSVP.($35 fee includes most materials.)

Getting ready for spring

As I'm writing this, the snow is feet deep on the ground, and it's really hard to imagine that the official start of spring is less than six weeks away.

But it is!

Warmer weather, silkier fabrics, bare skin, sandals ... can't wait!

Really, it's fun to start thinking of the new colors and patterns you want to bring in to your wardrobe -- and I'll be sending out my spring trend report very soon, to help you get started -- but before you do that, you'll want to get your closet ready. If you start now, it will be a painless process, and you'll be ready for the new styles and trends spring has to offer. Here's how to do it:

1. Get a handle on what you have right now. With weeks of cold weather ahead, this auditing process is fairly easy. Wear your favorite pieces, of course, but also make an effort to get your less-favorite things out and try them. Try to get creative with it and turn it into something you love. If you find you can't even get it out of the house in the morning, because you don't LOVE how you feel in it -- say goodbye! You'll never wear it, so find it a new home. Start a bag of giveawas, and put that item in it. Repeat this process with everything in your closet that's for fall/winter.

2. Step back and identify your favorites. Taking a look at what remains, what do you really LOVE? What do you reach for time and time again and consistently love how you feel in it? See if you can identify the qualities those pieces have in common. It could be color, texture, pattern or shape. Maybe it's the piece's details that grab you. Those commonalities can help guide you when you head into the stores to shop for spring.

3. Get your clothes ready for storage. I often see clients' clothes get put away for the season when they aren't brand-spanking clean. Imagine, though, what it would be like to pull out your clothes next fall and find them all ready to go! Try to find the time to take your clothes to the dry-cleaners, get them hemmed, put them through the laundry -- whatever you need to do to make this process go more smoothly when those clothes come out of storage next fall.

4. Beautify your closet. With less clutter in your closet, you might be surprised how lovely it will look with matching hangers and everything stored properly in its space. (My favorite hangers these days are these from the Container Store. Iif you're so inclined, paint the walls of your closet your favorite, or hang a sachet on a hanger or a small framed picture on the door -- whatever inspires and delights you.

5. Get support. You might find this project easier if you have help. Ask a trusted friend to help, or contact me. I can help you identify what works for you and what doesn't -- and help you understand why, so you're better prepared to bring your style into spring and summer 2010. Enjoy!
